Hello Everyone-- I just received my Con-Cor New Haven Comet. After I removed it from the box, I noticed two hairline cracks on each end car. The hairline cracks start from the "crown" of the cab and run down to the middle of two lights above the windshield; interestngly, they are symetrical, implying they may be nothing more than seams. I removed the shell of one end car and noticed no internal cracking. Has anyone who bought one noticed the same thing? Any idea what I am dealing with? A defect? A seam? I intend on contacting Con-Cor about this. What would you do? Live with it? Return it? I've not run it, so I don't know how well it runs. By the way, I don't have an appropriate camera to take a picture. Thanks, Steve Williams
I would not live with it, that's for sure. I would do my best to alert the supplier and to ask them to respond one way or another as to what they intend to do about it. If they can't or won't do anything, you have the option of trying to get a better replacement or trying to fix it yourself if you have the skills and strong desire to make it better. Or, simply getting a refund.
Hello Again, I contacted Con-Cor and other sources about my concern over possible (vertical) hairline cracks on the front of the end cars. These are NOT cracks. They are seams due to the intricate bends in the model. According to another source, they are also a design features based on the prototype. In any event, my question has been answered - they are not defects. I am glad because the model is stunning and designed very well. Now, it's time to run it and have fun!!!! Moreover, I cannot wait for the N-scale version. Steve Williams
