I am building a couple of these cars, in one pic you can see one completed car and another in the background started . I found this prototype pic online and I cannot figure out what and where the reporting marks are, any guesses ?

Im not very good with attaching photos but I hope I'll get better at it ..

It is probably some sort of not too hazardous gas or liquid. Either that or very large fishing sinkers for going after very deep fish...:tb-biggrin:

Can you zoom in on the center sill? Sure wish Jim was still alive, as I could ask him....

Ive zoomed in the best I can and I dont see a thing... It looks like there might be some black reporting marks on the sill at the left but I can't see it well enough to see what they are. I may have to wait for a "tank cars in color" book. There not a bunch of pictures of these cars out there and they were not THAT uncommon. These Traincat kits are fun to build.

In "Tank car Color Guide Vol 1" there are five photos of this type of car, two ACFX, JCIX, RTCX and SHPX. ACFX 522 has rm on left side of side, ACFX 426 has a square panel attached to side that extends to handrail for rm and is on the right side. JCIX 131 has a long panel, about half the car length, in the middle of the car with rm on left side of panel. RTCX 340 is similar. SHPX 216 has Dupont logo and rm on left side of side.

Hopefully this link will work since your car is in the photos.

Well it gets me to the Google page where about midway down there is a PDF document on current tankcar types. Open and scroll down and your car is there. Image magnification is at top of screen and you can get about a 200% magnification that is readable. Gets blurry on a higher mag. The car is on page 12 of the PDF document.

Found a similar brass model in H0:

The roads given on the decal sheet might help with an answer.

The 1:1 mystery flat is possibly missing the sign board per your model. I'm guessing the info is/was supposed to be there, maybe still on the other side of the car, unless it's roaming around the countryside looking for an owner. The side looks too thin to have the reporting marks the recommended size without having a plate for them. I kind of doubt if it could be on the center sill at all. The mystery car looks to be a converted box car with a fishbelly sill rather than (say) a GSC flat with its deep sill. It looks like a 1:1 kitbash to me.

Kind of a weird place for the hazmat placard, too.

I have a group of the traincat kits, thats why I'm trying to find out how to letter them. In my pics above you can see the traincat kits being built. The Hooker car was built to resemble the MTS brass import car. The other car I want to build and paint to resemble a different car. I have not found a lot of info on the prototype cars, the traincat kits are GREAT !! Finding the paint and lettering isn't so easy.
