Anyone buy and use the WS Roto wheel cleaner ? This looks like it could be a real time saver, cleaning a large roster of locos. Keith.
Not sure this product and the other track cleaning items are off the 'ship' yet. My LHS says, "Not for awhile." Jim
I was told the roto wheel cleaner has been delayed for a bit, I think they said it would be in by the end of March from who I have it ordered from. The track cleaning kit is in stock at some places.
Some Retailers and On Line shops have them in stock now, If you are in the Chicago area Des Plaines Hobbies has them in stock in the store.
Keith, I picked up both the track cleaning kit and the wheel cleaning kit in Hamilton at Modellers Choice a week or so ago. I've done a couple of loco's and it does work really, really nice and saves a lot of time and headache. Very much worth the investment specially when I need to help a friend get his layout in good working condition for the up coming Double Headers Tour here.
maverick0, always good to hear from a fellow Canadian ! I was hoping this was the case. Well worth the small investment to quickly and easily clean the whole roster. Do you use isopropyl alcohol with this unit ? I'm going to the Lyndsay MRR show on Saturday. Modelers Choice normally has a few tables at this show. Great people. I haven't been to their store in a few years. I always stop by to say hello. Regards, Keith
On Friday I picked up Woodland Scenics Tidy Track system and Wheel cleaner, I must say the Tidy Track system seems to work as advertised, Cleaning the areas in Tunnels, under bridges and between my station platforms has never been easier. The Wheel cleaner seems to work quite well also. Now with that being said based on my experience it seems to me that the system is much better suited to general maintenance and keeping the tracks clean, If your trackage needs major cleaning I would suggest using the old tried and true elbow grease method, the same holds true for the wheel cleaner. I have a snow scene on my layout; the "snow" banks are almost railhead height outside, and there's a bit of snow over the ties as well. Will the product hit the "snow"? How low profile is it? I use Atlas c55 track.
You may have some issues, while it is fairly low profile the design is such that it overlaps the tracks slightly on both sides this is what allows it to follow the tracks.
