New life for the famous MILW Northern Montana Division bridge which suffered washout damages last year: http://www.greatfallstribune.com/article/20120319/NEWS01/203190303/Damaged-trestle-section-could-repaired-by-years-end?odyssey=tab
Imagine the slow order on that one! And the Milwaukee would still use it, SLOWLY!! Seriously great news to heart that they'll get it sack into usefulness, that'll make life better for the CMRR and their customers!! I still need to take my wife on that dinner train, so am looking forward to hearing when its up again!!
All that it will require now is for the project to be funded. That it took so long to get this far is a little bit worrisome.
Despite the usual input from the Negative Nancy's, who just know it is impossible, the bridge repairs have come to pass. Sorry to disappoint the "it can't be done", "never gonna happen" expert crowd, but the job is very close to completion now. Unless an unforeseen delay pops up, there should be trains running well before the snows fly. I have even heard a vague rumor there could be a special train or charter excursion to celebrate the event.
Awesome news! Charlie Russell Chew Choo, anybody? I lived 4 years in MT and I never made the ride. Shame on me... :-/
I'm wondering if they've hit a snag. I was just checking on progress, and they have not yet installed the girders. They were supposed to be beyond this point by now, and finished before end of this month. Unless they pick up some speed, they'll miss that date. The reassembled support towers appear to be all topped out now, at least.
Going by the latest photo, (today), it appears that all the bridge girder sections are now all installed! Can't quite say absolutely, as a tree obscures a part of their work. Not quite great camera placement. Soon, very soon!
Good to hear this. The dinner train is great. The train crew also performed a murder mystery play during dinner involving all of the passengers. I nice way to spend the evening.
