Just received the kit yesterday PM. The detail on these castings is incredible! Picked up the trucks from LHS and once the taxes are finished, it'll be time to get to work. Will be a slow build (my only two speeds...slow and even slower), but I don't want to goof up this kit. NCDaveD
Here she is. All painted, decaled, and complete. It's amazing what a light coat of gloss does for the color. So far it's been run for a few hours on an N-trak layout with only a couple of minor bolster adjustments needed. It is a pretty light kit but actually tracked and ran quite well. Not only was I able to go forward crossing over from one line to another but in reverse as well without any issues. I'm quite pleased and can't wait for the rest of the consist.
Looks real good! Just needs a load now! Like the cracking tower delivered to Sun or refinery in Commerce City some years back.
I have got to get me one of those. I have wanted a Schnabel car ever since I knew they existed. Trix made one in N-scale(a European prototype, of course), and I almost bought one on several occasions. I'm glad I resisted the urge now that I can get a U.S. prototype one. I am still happy with the " European prototype "!
i e-mailed mark from elgin he now has a paypal account set up at ( info@elginlocomotiveworks.com ) and there is a LOAD the cracking tower.. i just ordered my 800
for the very best results, with no visible signs of the edge of the decal, is this: one coat of gloss (glosscote works well), apply decal, clean off water spots, allow to dry and then another coat of gloss. After that, you can apply Dullcote if desired.
Yes, that is great advice. Without the gloss overcoat after decals and before applying a dull finish, you get a slight shadow where the decal film is.
Hey guys, some amazing pictures! Please link some youtube videos of this beautiful car running on your layouts. I'll be ordering this car very soon!
