What couplers would I use? Roundhouse Overland passenger car rapido to knuckle?

Hi all. I picked up a great condition set of Roundhouse 50' Overland passenger cars, but they came with those much hated crapido couplers. I have some of the Bachmann dummy knuckle couplers that have fit a lot of my other projects that have needed converting, but they won't fit the trucks on these. Is there another straight across conversion that will fit your standard T-shank coupler pocket?

I don't have mine immediately available to look at but if the coupler pocket is the standard split pocket then the MT 1128, 1129, or 1130 is the standard T shank fit. Based on the distance I would hazard that the 1130 long shank is the one. However that said most of mine are either MT 1015/1016 or Z scale body mounts with the mounting screw trimmed flush since it will stick above the platform.

I put FVM wheels and z body mounts on mine. I cut the rapido holder off the truck and reuse it (the truck, not the holder :) )

How do those Z scale couplers couple up to N couplers? Do they work out well or would I need to convert my loco as well? And if I need to convert the loco to a set of Z couplers, what set would I use for my Roundhouse/Athearn 2-8-0? I'm not at all opposed to trying it and have actually been quite curious to try some Z couplers on N equipment for quite some time. Thanks for your input and help guys!

LOL that is HILARIOUS! I guess we won't ever have to ask Delamaize what couplers he uses again. That pic is now my background of the week. :tb-biggrin: It does make me wonder how they would fit in my Kato locos though.

In my limited exp the z couplers connect to the n ones, just fine. I'm traveling and can't look at my 2-6-0s or 2-8-0s, but I have n knuckles on them. You might be able to mount z couplers.

why not use unimate couplers? these cars should run as a unit, and they are basically a drop-in replacement

Honestly this was the answer I was looking for. I had no idea what couplers were the straight across conversion. I am kinda growing on the idea of trying out the Z scale couplers for the sake of trying something new though. I dunno. I might just go with the unimates. Is there a part number or something I can take with me so when I walk into my favorite shop in Denver I can just ask them and find them easily? I probably won't have much time when I can get down there next and I want to make it a quick trip or I might just walk out with a lot more than I need or can really afford lol.

Very cool!!! I'm also a LOT closer to Intermountain than I am to Denver so this will give me another excuse to go visit them and dig in the scratch and dent room!! :tb-biggrin: Thanks for the info!
