I am building this layout with my son (8 yrs) in my office/guest room. Due to space limitations the layout is going above my computer. It is roughly 4 ft off the floor. I've gone through many iterations on the layout and came to this layout. It's not perfect but it works for me and him. Plan is to run DCC and JMRI (I think). I change my mind a lot so the end result will probably change.

What size is your layout? Looks to be something which might take up about that same area as a door?

Is it accessible on both sides and at the end; if so if you put a large view block in (backdrop), the layout will fee larger. Also If you can't access the back, 3 feet is a long reach and not recommended to access equipment and problems.

Pit is up against the wall. The back corner is a stretch but I can reach it.

Looks like a good start. Always good to see kids involved with the hobby too.

He really likes to help me until I get frustrated then he know to go find something else to do.

Had the day off and was going to work on the layout but decided to go hobby store hopping. I have been wanting to go to a couple of shops about an hour and a half from here so I managed to do a 170 mile loop and hit 4 of them. Only got one thing but I had fun and meet some good (and not so good) hobbiest. One place had a CSX SD80MAC for a great deal. Never planned on getting a loco this big but I like it. Was kinda a impulse buy but it was half of retail.

I came home and took a nap.

Then I finished the main loop on the layout and cleaned up some. Have some turnouts on order so it won't be till next week till I can get some more track laid.
