None of your business... What? Did you think I was kidding.

    Time for true confessions:

I bought a N Scale, Athearn/Roundhouse 2-6-0, that I could have gotten for half price on the interenet and the darn thing wouldn't stay on the tracks. It may have been a return and they attempted to fix it. Like a lot of LHS's they may have policy of allegedly fixing it and putting it back out on the shelf.... at MSRP. Not a good practice in my estimation.

Anyway, after several attempts to run it and a request here for a parts list. With none to be had. I got brave enough to take it apart and adjust the drawbar between the tender and locomotive. Now...*%$&>*!... it seems to be working ok, I said without grinning.

    You had to ask.

Found three Athearn SFRD 50' reefers with different road numbers at a toy-store-that-also-sells-trains, a store 30 miles from my hpome I did not know about and found by accident today.

The SFRD 50' reefers are usually superinsulated reefers used for frozen foods. I will use them to transport frozen fish and seafood from my shrimpboat harbor.

Got home from jury duty today and found a package on the doorstep. Three spools of SOLID wire. I have been starting to wire my layout and have a good supply of wire, except...
I have heard that stranded wire is best for wire that might be flexed- like the connections between sections that are going to have to be plugged and unplugged and moved around as I add sections.
However, my poor soldering skills are not up to soldering stranded wire neatly onto thje sides of N scale rail. I will continue to use the stranded wire between mhy control panels and the terminal blocks under my sections. But I will use solid wire for the actual connection to rails. I got 100 feet each of blue, white and black.

My layout goes around the walls so that except for a turning wye, the track is always east toward the right, west toward the left, as on a map. Except for the wye, the rail farther from the inside operator is the north rail, and to a northern nhemisphere guy like myself, north is "cold." So the north rail gets the white wire, and the south rail gets another color, in this case, blue. Following sectional track switches, I use green for normal turnout direction, red for reverse and black for common. Anyway, I use black also for turnout frog wiring which is sometimes north, sometimes south, dependiong on which way the points are thrown.

Anyway, I guess I am set for my next bunch of wiring.

While unloading another 1500# of granite from my truck, my
Sunset Ltd 4 car M10000 arrived.
Just like the prototype, ugly as sin!!
Which makes it rather unique, which I guess is why I like the thing!
Photos later, foot pain a bit too much at the moment!

I would not worry about the solid wire. Stranded is just marginally better, and more flexible.

On the new front, just got word my new BLMA spine cars are on the way.

Train show yesterday in Spokane, spent around $350 and got 7 locos, 5 were custom painted units, and probably around 20 cars.

I'd say its a good haul.

If this is small gauge wire for the feeders, I say use solid, its easier to deal with esp when soldering to the rails.

For my NTrak modules, I use stranded wire for the bus. Whenever I build a home layout, the permantent parts will probably be the solid, with stranded that goes between joints and removable sections.

I am using all stranded this time around. I twist, tin, and solder the feeders to the bottom of the track though. Soldering to the side of the rail...solid probably works best.

BTW...waiting on my latest purchase to arrive...hopefully tomorrow :)
