I visited the show briefly today. This was a Hobby and Toy Show. There were some model train vendors, Bachmann, Model Power and Life-Like. Additionally, Classic Metal Works, Woodland Scenics. The Life-Life GP-60's and GP-18's looked very nice with their accumate couplers. Bachmann has some new steamers coming out next year, a Decapod, a Russian, a N&W J-Class. They didn't have any prototypes, just little signs. They also have ER Models Baldwin Sharks now. Model Power displayed prototypes for their new 2-6-0 Mogul and 4-4-0 American, with interchangeable boilers and cabs to fit specific prototypes. Classic Metal works displayed their new cars and trucks: Transition era International R-190 Semi-Tractor and 32' Fruehauf AEROVAN....extremely nice looking! I am not sure if these are new models, they will also be releasing IH R-190 Delivery Trucks. Miller Engineering (Micron Industries?) had some great looking "neon" signs 1950's era...Flea Market...Motel...Restaurant...I will upload pics tomorrow, when I get back to SoCal.
I'm really interested in the Model Power 2-6-0 and 4-4-0. We've been needing some small steam than wasn't pre-1900. All we've had to go on were the two photos on Model Power's website, and I'm not sure how representative those photos are of what they're really going to produce. I hope you gots shots. Regards Ed
I am anxiously awaiting the photos of the Model Power eight wheeled steamers. I gather they are producing them with interchangeable parts like cabs, cylinders, pilots, headlights and tender trucks. I have been ranting about this for twenty years and somebody FINALLY listened.
NSCALEMIKE, Thanks for the info, look foward to the photos. Thank you for a job well done. 3rdRail, maybe somebody finally heard you. maybe some small Nscale steam will how be available. I hope the Traction Tyre thing is now resolved. Jeffthumper
Hmmmm..... small steamers.... low weight... low tractive effort... traction tires are a must... didn't see that as one of the features on these engines.... hmmmmm?????
Hi! > small steamers.... low weight... low tractive > effort... traction tires are a must... No, the problem in N Scale is in the frame of the drivers. The manufacturers don't seem to be able to get the drivers to float up and down a bit like the real ones. If the drivers are not perfectly in line, one or more tires is going to have little or no traction. We fake this by putting a rubber band on one of the tires. If we guess right and put it on the one that is "light" the reult is pretty good. If we guess wrong and put it on the one that was in good contact, electrical qualities are very bad. I wish they would design a steamer using the Baldwin wishbone suspension! Tony Burzio San Diego, CA
