Christmas was a bit... ho-hum... this year. Not a lot of stuff I really wanted or needed... in fact... I had forgotten about the Athearn 40' 2600 cu.ft. Airslide covered hoppers. I got my Xmas present on Thursday the 22nd from one of the e-tailers I had reserved these from almost a year ago. They look great... D&RGW had some of the early versions... so I got the three numbers Athearn announced. Other than that... there would have been NO N scale stuff under the tree this year. In previous years there would have been at least a full passenger consist and/or some locomotives... this year was slim-pickens for me.

Happy Holidays to all the Trainboard 'family' members... hope your N scale wishes come true for 2012.

That stocking hung by the chimney with care-- ended up with two Atlas NS gondolas, a Conrail 90 ton coal hoper, and a North American Railcar Hawker Government of Canada grain hopper. Even better- under the tree was a Big E productions DVD of CP Rail's Kicking Horse Pass west of Calgary, a great day spent napping to the sights and sounds of CP GE's moving freight around Cathedral, Field, Spiral Tunnels, etc. ahhhh, thanks Santa!

No trains under the tree for me this year, but thanks to some generous folks on some of the train-related forums I post on, I'll be getting a couple of packages in the mail soon with some nice train goodies. Thanks again guys, and thanks to the communities on this and the other sites. It's great that there are so many nice, supportive fellow model railroaders out there.

Nothing that had wheels, bells, lights, lights or windows. Not even a lump of coal. But then I already have all the locos I want or need, and a number of new steamers still in the box needing decals and some added detail parts. But I did get a couple of sets of very nice precision mini screw drivers and nut drivers and a few other tools that will keep me in business for the upcoming new year that I really needed. I couple of good books for when I tire of railroading and need a change, and some good music to listen to while in the workshop. The important thing is that I managed to completely fill my Wife's wish list thus She's happy, therefore I'm happy. Had a quiet peaceful Christmas and enjoyed a nice dinner of roast duck and wild rice, with fresh baked rolls and pumpkin pie. Spent a quiet evening watching some TV and talking with my kids scattered here and there. Best Christmas gift was getting a critically ill Grandson home from the hospital in time for Christmas.

From "Lady Grandure"s daughter. She picked this out herself. It is the only MRL car I have and it is my favorite kind of car as I can make up long trains with lots of different cars.:

Not mine, (I'm not at liberty to show the owner), but my love's grandchild is starting early. Next year I'll get him a started set. Well, um, er, ya see, I got him a starter set this year but he is too young. sigh.

A Y6b 2-8-8-2 and a couple coal cars numbers 3664 and 3669. Here is the Y6b pulling a 20 car coal drag past the pond and the new cars.

I bought eight train sets and gave them to Toys For Tots. I kept thinking just how much I loved trains as a kid. And there are so many folks out there either without a job or are working for far less. I am so fortunate to have a good job right now so the best gift for me was being able to gift to some kid that I only hope was as joyed on Christmas day as I was when I got my first set. I will admit the wife went with me to a train show a few weeks ago and paid for a couple of C&O gons for me. I will get a pix of them later.

No retraining required. Nothing wrong with doing a little of both... ;)

    My other hobby: www.67m20e.com

My kids got me the Kato Chicago Metra set, but I'm not sure if that was for me or more for them. My oldest took off for the basement as soon as it was opened and had it running before I could even get up... Really like the cab car lights and how they change depending on the direction of the train.
