Looking at pictures of 1:1 scale CP AC4400CWs (for a project I'm working on) and Kato's version I noticed something (among other things) and I'm wondering if I'm correct....

The Kato cab with attached panels seems to represent a 90's built AC4400 but the hood on the Kato seems to represent a 2000's built AC4400?

Looking behind the dynamic brake openings on the kato hood there is a panel and then a radiator which would seem to represent a 2000's built loco, pre 2000's built seem to have the radiator right beside the dynamic brake openings.

    Have a look:

Those are not radiators, those are air intakes. Yes they change position during the production run.

Oooops, thanks for the correction. :tb-embarrassed:

Yep I know, what I meant was the panels just behind the cab.

you need the long hood from a up ac4400 that has the grill in the right place

    Thanks for the heads up!
I guess it would be easier to cover than to cut and replace.
I'll look up the details of these hoods.

You would think that with all those different GE models out, someone would come up with a detail/upgrade/conversion kit like the one Trainwork did for the SD70Ace/M-2 set that would includes stuff needed to get more road specific model.
