This part: I believe the purpose of this is for power and telecommunications between locos in a consist (correct me if I'm wrong)... but what the heck is it called? Also, Where can I find/order this part in N-scale as my Kato units don't have them. I have MU hoses and cut levers from BLMA and want to add this part when I install those.
MU hoses or connectors is about the only term I have heard used and the only other one I have heard is Jumper. The bigger hoses are pnematic or air hoses while the hose/cable shown circled is for train circuit controls between units. The only time you found a power cable between units would be in the case of a loco and slug, or between electric locos where one loco could also feed electricity to a 2nd loco from the pantegraphs of the lead unit. I believe there are six MU connections on todays locos less than on earlier models. The sander function is now automatic on most of the new stuff so a connection for that control is not needed today. First generation opens up a whole other can of worms especially passenger.
As far as modelling it: Use s small piece of 22-24 awg wire or order them from Atlas from the Dash 8s for $0.50

N DASH 8-40CW MU CABLE

List Price: $0.50 per EACH

Stock: No

Qty:

Retired PC/CR/NS says +1, sometimes alternately referred to as a "Jumper Cable", one would actually be used between each unit in a multiple engine consist.
And does anybody dare run multiple lashups with the hoses properly connected or at least not tucked away like on the lead unit?
