I read an earlier thread on another board and was very impressed with the results of some cardstock models of CTA elevated trains. I know the company that made those makes NY subways but in my opinion they could be much better. Therefore, I'm working on making a cardstock model of a redbird subway car, as close to proper dimensions as possible. I will be using actual photos of the cars (sides and ends) to make them as realistic as possible, and printing copies of things like windows and doors so adding some depth will be easy. My intent is to put these on simple frames and use them for static (maybe powered, later) models on an elevated subway line across my layout. So, with all of that said, the one thing I'm lacking is some good photos of subway cars (from the side and end) that I can use without paying an arm and a leg for (i.e.- free). I'm glad to share the final results in the form of a PDF file that anyone can use to make their own. Anybody have some good photos of subway cars that they would let me use for this project?
Well from a quick Google search I came up with this; seemed as it would be a nice place to start. There is also a good DVD out Called "Redbird" that tells the story of the last run of the Redbird Subway cars. The DVD can be found on Historic Rails site. I hope those leads help you. I am building a layout of the Coney Island line the "D" Train. Good Luck and have fun. https://www.google.com/search?q=nyc+subway%3B+pictures&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=l9k&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&channel=np&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=GU3iTs6FGLTSiAKn5u2NDw&ved=0CDIQsAQ&biw=1201&bih=580#hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=cUQ&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&channel=np&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=nyc+subway%3B+pictures%3B+redbird&pbx=1&oq=nyc+subway%3B+pictures%3B+redbird&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=319434l323679l0l324039l9l9l0l6l0l0l500l1051l2-1.1.0.1l3l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=6e5d30c56b2a43f1&biw=1201&bih=580
http://nycsubway.org has tens of thousands of subway pictures. They are free to view but copyrighted.
I have a book which shows dimensional data for the car bodies, doors, door spacings, wheels/trucks sizes and spacings for the R26 and R28 IRT cars, which I think are what most people consider the Redbirds. PM me if you would like more information.
Yep, been there and already sent a message asking for permission to use some photos, but haven't heard back yet. Thanks though!
