I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to capture pictures of UP Locomotive 844 yester day. It was out Southwest Benson, Az; Vail, Az; and finally in Tucson, Az at the UP Staging Yard. 844 was accompanied by SP/UP Heritage Loc 1996 running right behind the 844. SWEET sight. I thought I would share them
That has to be a rare sight for you guys in AZ. Glad you caught her, she's a beauty. I sure wish UP would sell tickets for these excursions. I had a chance to ride in their cars when the 844 and 4449 doubleheaded in 2007 and their cars are magnificent, a pleasure to ride. :tb-biggrin:
Fitz, I bet that was a nice treat. Sure would have loved that. Your correct we don't get to see her often if at all. And then to have 1996 with her a double treat for me. Have fun Bremner
Heading down to the UP yard later today to do get up close and personal! You're right, Fitz, they never run the western steam down to AZ!
She's on the move again. Sitting in my office, I just heard the throaty whistle as it crossed a street down the block here in Mesa. A woman in my office heard the noise, and said "WHAT WAS THAT?". "The UP 844", I replied casually.
I really did not get a chance to see her on Saturday, she is set to run through CG and stop at 2:25....15 minutes before the kids get out of school....think I'll leave early and get her on the other side of the I-10....
UP844 I am spoiled up here in Colorado. I am 50 miles from their home stalls. Here is a couple pics for you as she left headed your way.
mwilhelm- Welcome to TrainBoard! I sure like seeing what cooler air does for smoke plumes. The cold may not be much fun to stand in, but the effect makes photos even better.
Welcome to the Trainboard mwilhelm. Nice pictures there, lucky guy here in the SOuthwest it's the first time I knew of that 844 was even close. Thanks for sharing and I hope you you enjoy your stay here
Hello Wilhelm! Great photos of 844, I am sorry I missed her leaving. Where did you take the photos at? I usually try to catch her north of Nunn. Here are a couple of photos from July that I took.
