Bumping this thread again as a reminder. Just 2 weeks to go to get ready. I have got a lot of nice comments from a screen saver I set up with just some pics. I can hardly wait to see how people will react to the real thing.

Well unfortunately I walk around in a warehouse for 11 hours a day.. So... this probably won't work for me.

A few days left to get yours together. I added some trees, colored the ties and the track, added ballast and cleaned up the mess. This is as ready as I'm going to get. A few pics added.

Nice one, Dan. My coworkers call me "Conductor" because of all the train paraphanalia (sp?) around my desk.

There is a Kato Metra MP36 and three gallery cars going around a small oval of Unitrack on my desk right now. (I'll try to post pictures later.)

Too bad Kato hasn't done the VRE release yet. I think 1/4 of my office rides VRE.

I don't know if this counts, since I didn't bring it in special just for today, but Darth Tater has been holding up this little mini-diorama for a few weeks...

Cool layout, Dave! I like the long coal drag. I wish I had that kind of space in my office... The plexiglass cover is a good touch as well... lesson born of experience?

Thanks. The plexiglass cover was needed for protection. I have 2 young cats.

Just about time to wrap things up. I have had about 15 people or so stop by say lots of nice things about the train and the layout. I think I got a couple of them thinking about one. That's all we can ask for.

My little 2-8-0 Spectrum loco has run all day long without a problem as well. I love this little loco.

I hope your day has been a good one as well.

So here's my setup. I did very little planning as I've been busy. I wanted my "display" to be lightweight and easy to transport. I wanted to showcase the smaller side of model railroading so I used my 1980s Marklin Mini-Club on Micro-Trains track (outstanding BTW) Also, as a newer employee at a conservative corporation, I didn't want to draw TOO much attention to myself:
"[insert last name here]!! Where are those TPS Reports I asked for!?!?!"
I wanted to do an oval of Kato Unitrack around the outside, but with no planning I didn't get the straight sections I needed, so the Z scale oval wouldn't fit inside the N. I ended up with a piece of flextrak to show off DCC, some recently weathered rolling stock, and two coal gons (DEEX & DETX) as they are very relevant to my workplace. I had about 8 people stop by to check it out, I'm not in a very high traffic area, so it was pretty cool. I know at least one coworker's children (boys 8 & 9) might be getting a train set for Christmas.

    I learned 3 things today:
    1. People are obsessed with Lionel, it's all the talk about (I know why, I'm joking)
    2. There are 2 kinds of people: Those that look and say "wow, neat!" And those that urge you to "make it faster, FASTER," with the idea that the train will fly off its track and explode into a disastrous fireball.
    3. The age group of the latter ranges from 40-50.
