    What is the part number for the MT coupler for a Kato AC4400 / ES44AC ? I've got a few different answers so far from hobby shops! I'm going to place an order, and would like to get the couplers and Decoders at the same time, then I'll have some new power on the layout, ready to go!
    Thanks in advance!

    What you want to do is put 1015 shanks in a 2004 box. Yes, this means you have to buy both and assemble them yourself. Don't ask me why Kato is doing things this way.

    I have a whack of extras if you need em Mike. Both 2003's and 2004's. The 2003 is essentially a 1015 shank in a modified 2004 box.

    i use 2004 on the ac4400 and 1015 on the es44ac.

    2003 does not work because of that stupid box design.

    The following may or may not be of ant use to you, but here it is.:tb-biggrin:
    When I recently bought my Kato AC4400CW and C449W it was listed that if using a Digitrax decoder it was to be a DN163K1B. Well I found they did not work at all and that the DN163K1C is the correct decoder.
    Digitrax now states this on their web site, but some online and LHS may not have the correct one listed.
    So Digitrax replaced the decoders for me and wow these engines run the best of all of my Atlas and Kato engines. Not that the others are bad runners though.

    So far I have not changed out any of the engines couplers as I don't use a track magnet for uncoupling.

    So that is my story, sad, but true.

    there used to be a note on the digitrax website that the dn163k1b can be used in c44-9w/ac4400 but it requires milling the shell on the inside.

    Sandro,
    Yes, it did say that at the time. So tried decided to try it. Once I looked at what had to be done and how easy it would be to ruin the shell I just decided to install a rear LED with longer leads so it would not hit the shell at all. While doing this the other DN163K1B decoder I ordered arrived.
    Even with out the shell on the frame the decoder it's self did not work correctly. I have installed 12 Digitrax decoders and adjusted CV's so I kind of felt that something was wrong.
    Did some on line searching and found out that other modelers were having problems with the DN163K1C.
    So I went back the Digitrax site and then I saw that Digitrax had removed it for the engines.
    So to end this, the DN163K1C is the one to install works correctly and there is no body work to be done.
    And I am now happy.:tb-biggrin::thumbs_up:
