Last month I was able to head up to the Virginia & Truckee for a photo shoot. Before realizing I'd broken my car severely and getting towed over 100 miles back home I was able to catch the entire current roster. Here's a few of the pics. For the rest of the story, check out my last blog at http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/entry.php?2490-Broke-The-Car-But-Got-The-Pics . Note, not pictured is the ex SP steamer they have as a future project.
Beautiful pics, John. It's great to see old friend McCloud No. 18 once again. As an aside, McCloud's colorful engineer, Malen Johnson, passed away about a week ago. First 18 left, then 25, then most of the track, and now Malen. :tb-sad:
And the Bartle tank collapsed. Plans are to restore it though. Starting to really be not much left of the McCloud. The V&T was goin strong though with both McCloud 18 and the centercab pulling trains while I was there.
Nice photos. I like seeing the well kept steam. The diesel color scheme isn't bad at all. How is their ridership? Any news on progress of the track extension, etc? Boxcab E50
I havn't heard anything new on expanding the line as of late. As for ridership, the three trains I saw were packed. Course, the Gold Hill Hillclimb was goin on too as well as a rodeo in Reno so that might explain some of the crowds.
Nice photos! Those diesels have some nice paint jobs, and I am glad to see some good working side-rod locomotives getting some love. Though I would have preferred McCloud staying intact, I am glad that at least some its pieces are being looked after well. Adam
