In the current issue of Ztrack, we are running an ad for EMTZ Models. One new product I want to draw attention to is their tugboat and barge set (item B11). Ztrack received a sample and I have to say I am very impressed by it. Growing up along the Ohio River, I saw these combination all of the time. EMTZ really nailed it with the scale and overall look of the boats. It is making me think about building a river modules sometime. I do encourage you to take a closer look at the ad in Ztrack and the EMTZ products. They are made in Spain and are nicely detailed.

EMTZ products are available exclusively through Euro Model Trains. There link to their website is:

    Rob,

Are you also carrying their vehicles and buildings? I checked with EMTZ and these are all hand built and come ready to place on layouts.

Eddie, they are a cardstock material with a few cast pieces. I hate to label them as paper since they are much more than that. I am not carrying the line. This is an exclusive of Euro Model Trains. I just really like the set and wanted to pass it along.

    Towboat

In the USA this type of tugs are more commonly known as towboats (eventhough they push instead of tow). I've also been looking for these for years.

An old card modeler's trick is to saturate with CA. Makes the cardstock as tough as sheet styrene.

There is a plastic model of this type tug- not sure exact scale But Robert Kluz has one and I had one somewhere. Randy is right, they push--maybe 3 across and 8-10 deep- depending on barge size. Used extensively along the Mississippi for grain transport.

Randy, I've scratchbuilt cardstock models in the past (long long time ago) and used to just glue them together and paint and weather. What's "CA"? I'm about to scratchbuild a whole town and part of a city, mostly out of cardstock and it sounds like this might be something I'm looking for.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Thanks TechRep. Interesting. That made me think why not use some spray starch to stiffen up the cardstock. A little Googling shows that I'm not the first one to think of this. Thanks for starting the creative juices flowing though. TB Rocks!
