Just started reading this thread today and I had a feeling that you might be doing GM 10. Congratulations, looks like very neat work. You probably already know that GM 10 was delivered for set-up to the SAL at Hamlet in early July 1966 which thereafter was its' maintenance base which probably meant a few trips from Gainesville-Hamlet and return and the unit spent its' break-in period on SAL mainline freights. What'd be next, MD&S ALCo's. But again, good work and it's nice to have another SAL modeller aboard.
Well I hate to pull this one from the archives but I wanted to follow up. I got this one about 90% done and then went off to school before I could finish. Luckily summer is here and I could finally complete it. I detailed it pretty darn close to the real deal. I installed a firecracker antenna, drop steps, coupler lift bars, mu hoses, eyebolts, grabs, tall and short mu stands, fuel and builder's plates decals, and many other small things since last summer. I must say for a first custom model it turned out pretty darn well! The second picture was taken on my wip layout with two other cars that I also have custom painted. Thanks Trainboard for all the help through this project. It was a blast and I have really gotten in to what is a new aspect of the hobby for me. Thanks guys! Robert
You say your first - looks worlds better than my 14th or 15th effort on that SAL scheme. Thankfully the manufacurers have really taken care of us southeastern modellers in the last decade plus. Are you going o model the GM?
Dave, Thanks man, it sure turned out surprisingly well. The gp7 in the background is not going quite as well though :/ haha. The manufacturers have definitely squared us away. There really isn't too much that they haven't made. The layout will be mostly freelanced with scenes loosely based on various Seaboard scenes in Georgia, including some from the GM. As a whole though it will not be GM. Robert
the GM 10 looks really nice. I think that you did a really nice job on the painting and the decaling.
Robert, You've done a great job, hope this gets your confidance going enough to take on more projects. Cheers 2slim
