I think good service should be recognized and Richard at Intermountain has once again responded to my needs in outstanding fashion. I emailed Intermountain needing parts to repair an N scale F3A that couldn't defy the laws of gravity and travelled three and a half feet to the concrete floor. Richard promptly responded and said that he was backed up, but would get to me ASAP. After a little while I sent a reminder and didn't get a response. Turns out I didn't need one as the parts arrived within days free of charge! Just outstanding service in my book and I really appreciate a company like Intermountain.

I got similar treatment from Richard last week on some SD40T-2 handrails. I can get my last tunnel motor going again!

    Thanks IM!

I have had great service from Intermountain too. Several months ago I had a couple of tunnel motors hit the floor. I emailed them and asked if they had replacement shells that I could buy. I got a reply saying they really didn't have spares available but they would see what they could do. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago (keep in mind had moved from CA to Renton WA) Imagine my surprise (and confusion) when I walked out the door and found a package from Intermountain sitting on the doorstep.
I had completely forgotten about the shells, Intermountain hadn't.:tb-smile::thumbs_up:

I should really email them about my SD45-2s in the near future.

I got the same great "surprise service" a few years back when I emailed IM asking if I could purchase some spare fuel tanks for my TM's
They asked for my postal address which I gave them, but before I could supply any credit card details a small package containing 4 x sprues of both SP + D&RGW capacity fuel tanks arrived!
Like I said it was years ago & I've never forgotten it

    Likewise.

I lost the little screw that holds the front coupler to the headlight-mounting-plastic-thingy on my F3A. Tried replacing it with an MT coupler mounting screw which is apparently the same screw size but far too long. That didn't work too well, so I emailed Intermountain asking if I could buy a new one. Mind you, this F3A is second hand. I didn't purchase it from Intermountain (and I told them that - which is why I fully expected to pay for whatever...)

Got the replacement coupler assembly (new coupler, screw and headlight-mounting-plastic-thingy) in the mail this weekend.

I'm quite pleased. Will certainly be a repeat customer.

Well I too must say a massive "thank you" to Richard & Intermountain!
I was bugging Richard for 2 cab forward cabs & a boiler, after some months & correspondence with Richard I was told that it wouldnt be possible to help me with the cabs etc.
I had managed to repair one loco to an acceptable state, but the other is in the spare parts box......not now!
Imagine my surprise when a small package turned up today, had me baffled as nothing was being expected.Well to say I was totally blown away is a major understatement! 2 cabs,a boiler & a tender turned up!!!
I feel really humbled that a large company as IM can take care of their customers like they have,it only generates excellent feed back & good will! Its not the first time IM has done this for me,years ago I was sent a replacement box car after I stuffed it up.Even though I was asking for replacement + postage costs, just turned up in the mail,so it must have been company policy for along time......
Which must be why I own nearly 35+ IM DRGW T-2's :)
So again Intermountain & Richard,"thanks" from 'down under' ;)

I too have had a good experience with IM. They exceeded my expectations when I asked to pruchase one replacement axle assembly and I was sent two at no charge.

Nothing but positive to say of IM. Echoing what John and the rest of you said. Ditto, ditto, ditto.

Been there, done that :) They got my FT set back rolling with trucks (glue had come undone on the OE unit's brass contacts), and supplied parts another time to fix up a cab unit. LOVE their service department, and darn fine looking models too.....

Well I guess my bad luck continues. I have one of their F7B's that has a bad drive unit. I have been waiting about 4 months now, and no sign of the replacement.

So, I can not say anything positive at this point.

I am glad all of you fared better than I have.

    It's been said before, but...

Intermountain deserves criticism sometimes, but I hope that N scale modelers appreciate how crucial Intermountain has been to the ascension of N scale to the point that is is a credible contender against HO and larger scales. I am currently modeling the D&RGW in the 1950s and 1960s, and I can state flatly that if it were not for Intermountain, I would not have given N scale a second's thought. Thanks to Intermountain, there are outstanding models of D&RGW FTs and F7s, and what is equally important, outstanding models of the transition-era freight cars to be found on D&RGW manifest freights -- and in multiple road numbers, to boot. More recently, Intermountain has released beautifully detailed and prototypical models of passenger cars that filled numerous gaps in N scale's coverage. I would hope that our criticisms of Intermountain, deserved though they sometimes might be, are tempered by an appreciation for the company's contributions to N scale -- contributions that are, in my personal experience, fundamental to N scale's ascension to the ranks of those scales worthy of serious scale modelers. Intermountain's contribution to our scale has been one of profound depth, and I hope, for the sake of our hobby, that N scalers do not forget this.
