This afternoon, I did some more 'concreting', and thought I would take photos as I go. Here are the first few.

First, I made a 'kerb' of styrene, to act as a 'dam' to hold and level the plaster.

Then plaster was mixed to an ice cream consistency and plopped in the middle . . .

. .then spread fairly level over the whole area, to be scraped level later.

    More progress photos shortly.

Looks great Alan! :D I've also got to do this soon to the streets in my town (grade crossings and street trackage).

Next, I made a scraper in brass sheet, so that when scraped along the track, it cleaned out the flangeways, and left the 'concrete' just below rail level for easy track cleaning.

The rest of the filler was then scraped level with the kerb.

Ready for painting light grey, after the filler had dried fully.

    It will then need weathering.

    Hello Alan,

I was wondering how much and when I might be able to order one of those brass scrapers?

Ditto on the brass scrapers. I would like to give this a try.....but I have no means of creating one. Would you be willing to sell a few?

    Thanks

Not trying to take money out of Alan's hands, but I made my own based on Alan's advice. Mine, however, was made from plastic.

This process must be easy if I was able to do it.

It is just a simple filing job [IMG] Made mine in minutes. Can be made out of any suitable material. I throw mine away when i have done the job :(

My wife asked how to get the rails clean for flanges so I drew her a rough sketch of what I believed it to be. Almost identical to yours Alan. I guess I am not as stuped as I thought I was. :D

You could also file a profile into a plastic putty knife. They're cheap too.

    First of all.....nice layout :)

I was looking at how he used plaster for concrete with tracks in the "concrete" for the intermodal yard. I am also trying to figure out how many tracks I actually need for Intermodal operations. Right now I have four tracks planned. Two tracks are not in the paved area and are used for staging. The other two tracks are in the paved area and this where the loading and unloading will take place.
