Where can I get a replacement light for my Key Imports 2-8-4 Berkshire? While running at the Coosa Valley show this last weekend the light went out. I can take the front smokebox door off and there is two wires and a small light bulb. What would work as a replacement if I cant get one from Key?

Maybe a small LED and a resistor. Key is not in busness anymore for N scale.

I do not see a resistor in the smokebox area, just the light. It is also done in a way that looks like there is a place to replace the light. There are two solder joints one on each wire wrapped in tape. Almost like "Change Light Here" if you know what I mean. Maybe the resistor is farther back in the boiler?

Most of my Key locomotives just have a 12 volt bulb soldered to the motor leads, you should be able to replace it this way. I do have one with a constant lighting module in it, it would be tougher to change out, but you could replace it with a 12v bulb as well. My best guess would be to pull the boiler off and see where everything is wired to.

I would guess it is 12 volt. Test the leads with a meter, then you will know what grain-of wheat bulb to replace it with or what resistor to use with an led. If you don't have a meter, Harbor Freight has them cheap...everyone should have one. I have a dozen scattered about in my work areas.
