I've lived and loved my whole life on Long Island and chased her trains
until they were replaced with doubledecker and de30's...
Well the thought of doing the LIRR in N crossed my mind a few times

But HO offered a little bit more(not sure what yet)..

Welcome to HO. I have to say, I like your boats. I've been working on a Billings Nordkap for a few years now.

I grew up on Long Island. I can still remember the LIRR F-units (probably F-7's or F-9's) at the Ronkonkoma station (push-pull configuration). I took the train into and from Penn Station several times. I also remember (vaguely) the "Dashing Dan" logos on the sides of the boxcars. They were pretty faded by the time I was a kid. There's something I whish someone would produce in N-scale. I have some decals for the LIRR logo in the keystone scheme, but would love a "Dashing Dan".

Mark I never thought I would ever see you do any scale but N; but I can relate I've done the same. Your off to a great start and can't wait to see your progress

    Mark,

Welcome to the world of LIRR modeling! Enjoy my friend, even if you are modeling in the "easy" scale of HO. What part of the Island are you modeling?

I have the LI Gp 38 in Ho scale too, but haven't got the passengers cars to go with it. I've seen them at shows for quite a pretty penny.

LIRR had some refrig milk cars <1930. As they have no fleet in interchange, thus no boxcars labeled for the LIRR, except some MOW LIRR cars. The use of Keystone/DDan logos on boxcars is modeler's license. Fun to do, and sell well BTW!

Probably even better than F-7/9s. Unless the Pennsy loaned the LI some, those units you saw were probably Fairbanks-Morse units of various configurtions.
