I am doing an MT 1129 conversion on a Kato electric locomotive as well as a Kato business car (N scale). The instructions say to use Walthers Goo to secure the metal adaptor in the draft gear box but Goo is not easily available in Canada. I have located a product called Lepage Extreme Repair (chemical description: silane cross-linking polymer) which seems to be a usable substitute. The package says that it bonds many plastics but I'd like to know if it is compatible with the types of plastic used in model trains. Anybody have any experience with this product or ideas for other potential adhesives that are available in Canada? Thanks,
Walther's is a rubber based adhesive. Go to your local hardware store and look for the same type of adhesive. Info below. waltherss goo adhesive - Google Search Rich Rich
Thanks for the reply. I've looked in various home reno stores for alternatives but nothing really seemed like a good substitute. I checked this afternoon at a LHS and they recommended Ambroid Fas'n-All, the staff person said that he has used this product for years and prefers it to Walther's Goo.
Your. LHS beat me to the punch on Ambroid. I prefer Ambroid to Goo also. But in my area Goo is more readily available.
Goodyear Pliobond. I glued down some code55 track in N scale making a N0.22 turnout without spikes. It did work and stayed in place until I finally threw it out. Of course, that product is probably illegal in the USA now. Pliobond at Amazon.
Goo is a contact cement. You should be able to find a substitute in many hardware or building supply outlets. Boxcab E50
I went with the Ambroid from the LHS. I've glued the adaptor pieces in place and it's worked out fine. Thanks again to everyone for the feedback.
