I don't know why they haven't been offered. But it's not too hard to build one from sheet brass, brass rod, and ladder stock.
I have a design prototyped if any manufacturer out there (BLMA?) wants to take a shot at it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w5cAj8ubCk md
Hi, Osborn Model Kits of Ontario make one Ref: rra-3087 at $7.50. N Scale Model Railroad | Model Railroad Products I had to get my son, who lives in U.S. buy it for me as they won't post abroad. Mind you, I will make my own next time, 'cos if they can't be bothered to post to me, I can't be bothered to order from them.
The way your mast is painted reminds me of so many I saw.... We could use these in both upper and lower quadrant styles. Boxcab E50
I need the same thing, in Z. the one I need can be found in HO scale at Q connections. I think in N (and pehaps Z) you could run it using servos or solenoids, if you have room underneith
I don't see why the semaphores couldn't be made out of card stock paper, and the tower out of a Q-Tip stick, then everything painted appropriately. OK, the ladder might be a problem for my "Junk-Box", but I have so many structure kit leftovers, I might be able to fake something. How 'bout a short length of screen wire cut back to two outside wires so it looks like a ladder. Oh Yeh, and the platforms from some more pieces of card stock and a little CA to hold them and the ladder in place. OK, so this is just a brain-f*rt from an old codger, but it might look OK from 3 feet away. :tb-tongue: BTW, I picked up a 250 pack of 4x6 cardstock from Office Depot for about $6. It's heavy enough for lots of applications.
Somewhere packed away in a box I have a train station kit that actually came with one. I think it was based off an NP type. NJ International makes a semaphore that is illuminated and functions, and somebody else makes a control system for operation. These guys were part of the railroad scene both east and west for many years and they served for both notifying the engineer to stop for orders as well as to let the local or the through passenger that a passenger was there to board. Thats the flag stop noted on many of the old timetables. Certainly is a niche for someone to produce both versions. The roof mount and the free standing. And for another, when is the last time somebody saw a mail crane kit? They were pretty much at every station that had through passenger trains.
Thanks guys. Bob the Osborn kit looks good and price is reasonable, I dunno about shipping from Canada though. Steve I like the one you made also. I just was wondering why nobody has put out a good mass produced part like that. It seems a nice detail for most stations. Every modeller has a station, don't they? On this tought, why isn't there a station detail kit in N? I'm detailing a station right now and have had to hunt down or dig throught details to find everything I need around the station.
Does anyone have plans/dimensions? Mine needs to be lower quadrant, 2 lenses..I am having no luck with the signals and the CB&Q group
