Sweet! My Dad and I shot out there the next morning too, and just kinda' checked it out. We probably bumped into ya'! And I don't think they ever convicted anyone. Oh, and check out the Omaha Orange paint on the roof of 6436, ex-GN!! :teeth:
I've been getting a lot of my slides and negatives put onto CD's recently and have been enjoying seeing these old images once again. 1) Gotta start with my namesake BN 5618 here. BN U25C's 5618/5621/5602 team up at Interbay, WA 3-24-80. This would have been nice to see arriving or departing! 2) Another view of BN 5618. This U25C was built as NP 2518. I do have to admit the paint job is pretty nasty but what I would give to see her again. 3) Here are a few Amtrak views but at least they are on BN rails. Amtrak #13 southbound at Black River 7-21-80. At Auburn the train will turn east and cross Stampede Pass as train #8. Note there is no baggage car on the Empire Builder this day. It was the log flats on the right that drew my interest to this photo. I was hoping they were lettered NP but alas upon a closer look they had BN reporting marks. 4) Amtrak #7 this time but it's on the ex-Great Northern after crossing Stevens Pass shown coming into Gold Bar, WA on 10-20-90 behind a pair of F40PH's led by the 344. 5) BN GP9B 601 at Northtown, MN on 7-15-93 splicing a pair of former GN SD9's. After a bit of research I found out this was former BN GP9 1908, built as NP 323. Brian Ambrose Renton, WA
The rendering works at South Seattle is right behind me which is probably how I accessed this spot. I always wondered if the smell was worth it! I may also have walked down here from Black River tower where I spent many an afternoon and evening with the tower operator who was a buddy of mine. I even managed to get more than a few cab rides with the Milwaukee Road crews from the tower to West Siding where another buddy would pick me up and drive me back to Black River. Those really were some good times! Brian
