With the engine painted, the back shop crew was eager to take the Northern out for a spin on the turntable. The engine still needs to be lettered, number and various other detail such as weathering the drivers, rods, painting visible parts of the milled metal frame, install footsteps on the tender ect….. but she is happy to get steam in the boiler!

Excellent work! I must admit, one of the reasons I have not modeled steam in N is due to the lack of specific locomotives. Railroads of the steam era built many of their own locomotives and we did not see a more "modular" look to motive power until EMD, Alco and others started producing diesel. Simply having a 4-8-4 did not make it one for the C&O or Santa Fe as like you said, most were individual locomotives with the only thing in common being the wheel arangment. You have done a splendid job with these locomotives and I applaud your efforts.

Greetings "Swizzly". Yes, this is a real work of art coming from this project. Have cleaned all trackage, tested all turnouts, checked all of the rolling stock. Just getting ready for the realization of a 40 year dream of a ATSF northern in N scale that can actually be used in a prototypical manner. (and YES, i did purchase one of those Bmann northerns with rods only connecting the rear three pairs of drivers in either 1971 or 1972). Of course, I wasn't born then, or otherwise i would be OLD!!!! LOL
