The operators of those roads did not look at them as model railroads. They were operated and run as real lines (in miniature). While I won't be buying and A&M or V&O equipment for my line I think it was a fun idea for FVM to make these. I may pick up and MR&T boxcar or two to interchange with my line.
IF I modeled an eastern road, I might pick up a V&O boxcar, that being said, it would look out of place this close to the Mexican boarder
Not really..A V&O boxcar could be seen in El Paso just like any Eastern railroad car. I seen UP boxcars in Maine. Freight cars still travel far and wide.
Somewhere... and I can't remember where. I saw a listing indicating the boxcars and GEVOs had been pushed back to October and November. I would assume it's just a delay in getting a production slot since it's just a new paint scheme on a previously produced item.
Very nicely done. I can see a Utah Belt unit finding its way onto my Mopac layout, but it would have to be an SD60M or older model. Maybe a future release will be AWVR 777 AC4400CW from the movie 'Unstoppable'?
I see these as a tribute to two exceptional modelers whose contribution to the model railroad world has been immeasurable. I don't put them in the same light as fantasy pieces. I think this is a great way to promote the hobby. I, for one, would be honored if my modeling efforts were recognozed in this way. I plan on purchasing the box cars. The locos are too modern for me. One of my prized pieces is my MTL Gorre and Daphetid box car. I run it. To me that road is as real as any prototype road.
I never thought about it like that. Very true. This is not like a Union Pacific GG1. I also run some of the older model railroad layout pieces.

This made me think about all the cars that friends "interchange" cars between their layouts. I would run a fictional scheme car that a friend game me as a foreign road interchange. Having an AM or V&O boxcar makes me feel like I am interchanging with Tony and Allen though I only know them through their work. And of course we have the TB lease car . . . . Andy Tetsu Uma

Sounds like someone I heard at an airshow, knows nothing and wants to make sure his son knows less! If it's got four propeller engines, it's a Lancaster Bomber (even if it's a Lockheed Electra). If it's got one propeller engine, it's a Spitfire (even if it's a Boeing Stearman). Regardless of how many jet engines it's got, it's a Harrier. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I overheard a guy at our State Fair last week tell his son the SP was bought by the BN and the Burlington Northern and the UP are the only railroads left in the U.S.. I laughed so hard I almost launched Proto Pups his direction.
I was in Seattle today and there was an AM 68028 and a V&O 38624 boxcar sitting on the counter at a LHS. The owner told me that they had just came in today. I bought them both. I think they are very nice cars and I will definitely run them on my railroad. I am sure that they will blend right in with the rest of my 70's boxcars.
Yes, Tad, I received an notification that the ones I ordered from a Trainboard sponsor were in the mail. I hope to be posting pics soon of them in the yard at "Olde Grandure City". Intended in a nice way: Um, for those who feel the road names refereed to in this thread are not "fantasy" names, that's ok. I get it.. Feel free to start a thread on the definitions of "fantasy" vs "free lance" vs "this is my road and I'll do what I want". Perhaps I misused a word. Mea culpa.
I have considered making Utah Belt (the "UB" logo) decals but I can't make them in color. Maybe I can come up with my version of a Utah Belt logo. Good idea for a boxcar, though.
