Hey guys quick benchwork question. im building a 5x9 table was going to use a ping pong table top but they no longer carry them around here in my erea. so my next though is just a 5x9 fram work with bracing at 24 inch ceters with a layer of 2 inch foam on top of it my question is. Will this support a layout my worries is that it's going to not be storng enough thanks Zach.

    Zach,

it will be strong enough with braces @ 24 inch. I built my staging modules that way and they hold up very well for 3 years now.

Put castors on one end and a handle on the other. Then just pick it up like a wheel barrow. The legs without wheels will stop it from rolling around.

Interesting that ping pong tables are scarce where you are located. Is the sport dying?

That style of table was for many years a common method for a portable layout.

IMO, I would suggest that you use a 1/4" plywood top the put the foam on top of the plywood. If you use the foam by its self could possibly lead to a split in the foam. If you put wheels on the legs to make it easy to move and get to all sides the plywood would prevent cracks in the foam and make your layout stronger.
