Any pointers? I noticed that Kato has a PRR Broadway Limited set, but I've not seen it in person. I'd really like to see some pics or movies if anyone here has this particular consist running. I know Kato also does an E7 (8?) but does anyone else do a PRR E 7/8? I swear I saw one at the last show I was at, and it wasn't Kato, but I don't remember what it was.

Same thing with the SF Super Chief or El Capitan. Would love to see some decent first hand pics of someones running layout.

And if anyone who prefers intermodal freight happens to stumble in here by mistake, I wouldn't mind seeing your rig either :)

    Thanks!!!

Precision Craft Models (PCM) made a PRR E7 with DCC and Sound. They run pretty nice.

I'm still unpacking from a move. I can't find my B'way Ltd or my SP Daylight sets.
The B'way Ltd. set is very nice. I run it with a pair of Kato E-8's or a Tuscan red GG-1. The GG-1 handles all 15 cars.

Go to modutrak.com. We've got some videos there, and I believe the El Cap is one of them.

Both Kato basic sets plus their associated add-on cars are accurate consist configurations for both trains. You can check the Kato website for the years of operation that these specific consists ran.

PRR Power for the Broadway is not a problem -

LifeLike has done E8/9's in PRR. Lifelike has done E7's and PA's, not sure if they were available for PRR.
Broadway Limited (Precision Craft) has done E7's, E8/9's and PA's.
Kato does E8/9's and the GG-1's which are appropriate for the Broadway.

Santa Fe Power is another easy one -

    Kato has F7's A's and B's and PA's.
    Intermountain has done F7's.
Broadway has done E8/9's, and PA's. E6's are due middle of this year.
    LifeLike has done E6's, E7's, E8/9's, and PA's
    Athearn has FP45's.

The Broadway and Athearn loco's are offered with sound in both cases.

If you are strapped for cash, I have purchased both sets used over the past few years, at bargain prices at auctions and swap meets. All it takes is patience determination perseverance, and time.

Some examples.....Used Mintrix K4 Pacifics (I added a PRR passenger car powered by a Kato (ConCor OK too) RDC powered mechanism to ensure the loco has power to pull the entire consist.

Other past, and barely passable but cheap substitutes, Arnold GG1, Trix F7, Atlas and ConCor passenger cars and sets, ConCor Kato E units sold as individuals or sets, all of which I used until the Kato versions appeared. Of course when I finally completed both sets, is when Kato introduced these sets. Now I have all versions, and of course the recent Kato offerings are incredible and superior, I still run the oldies just to satisfy my past efforts of "making do". Plus, they are easier to age and weather........I still cringe when I weather new Kato or Atlas stuff.

As already noted, the beautiful KATO Super Chief is an accurate consist for the '51 train. However, the most appropriate power is an ABBA F7 set, with few exceptions, such as ABB's F7 westbound out of Barstow into LA. ABBA F3's are okay, PA's rarely, E8's (probably) never. In later years, an additonal F7 B unit would be okay...
    Fun stuff...:)

Oh, the earlier E3 and E6's were used on the Super before the F's became standard power in 1946/47 but the KATO cars are too modern for that. Santa Fe had no E7's.
