Here was my first glimpse of the unit... what threw me was the black number boards: CSX 4824 & 4005 lead train G865-06 northbound
I think so... Funny, but I have seen more standard cab Dash 8's in the past 3 months than the whole entire year prior....
Spotted one in Grafton, WV last week parked nose to nose with a GP38-2 and all of the long hood doors open. I was driving by, didn't get a good read on the number, 4002 maybe?
I caught another one a couple of weeks ago: http://hhodnett.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2621331
Rear view... I guess that is the parking brake on that stand? http://hhodnett.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2621329
CSX SD40-3 Rebuilds Some of the slugs units built on GP30 and GP35 bodies come through Gettysburg. They come over the Catoctin Mountains from Hagerstown yard. They service the industries and small yards here in Gettysburg and in Hnover going to and from York. The trains have anywhere from three to five units depending on weight, A number of which are the 8600 series SD50 and SD50-2's.
That is one UGLY looking cab on those 40-3s. But hey you know, it is a kitbashers DREAM! I might just have to try and tackle this one.
