I just received my new edition of N Scale Railroading magazine. I am very unhappy as the magazine arrived now for the 3rd time soaking wet. Unfortunetly, the magazine comes in a paper envelope which offers no protection from rain, water or moisture. I know this isnt their fault, it is the totally unreliable United States Post Office...
but........You'd think that for as much as they charge for this publication, they'd consider the fact that it could get wet and then send it in a plastic sealed type bag envelope so that it arrives in good condition. Other magazines I get come in plastic.
I have written to them today, I just hope they dont send me some kind of stubborn or unhelpful response saying that they cannot do anything to protect it. Or, hopefully, they will take this into serious consideration and change the way they send it....in PLASTIC.
Has anyone else had this problem ???? ands if so have you expressed your concerns with them ?

Does your mailbox leak? I am not trying to be a smart guy, but I had a problem of soaking wet mail for a while and it turned out to be that I had a leak near the mail slot. Once I fixed that my problem was solved.

Still, it's darn frustrating. I typically use NSR and N Scale issues as excuses to go to my LHS where I pick them up.

I received mine today and it wasn't wet. Maybe I'm lucky that it isn't raining here yet. Plastic would be best like MR does or used to. They should be able to send you a replacement. When I used to subscribe to MR and Trains I received some damaged issues and they always replaced them no problem.

I did find a little bit of moisture in the mail box. So, that might have been there or it came off the magazine as it was wet when placed into the box. Not sure. Still, a plastic wrapping is the best and safest way to avoid ANY problems. Maybe they'll consider this and change. Also, better for the environment as no trees cut to supply paper ??? Am I correct, ? or close to it ? Thanks !

I've never had the moisture problem. My issue is that my LHS had the issue in stock on Tuesday and I still don't have it. I'm only two miles away, how much longer can the bulk mail take? (I don't really want to know, last issue it took 3 weeks longer)...

Luv the mag also - however mine arrives here in Canada....Eh O-K.

I kinda like the mystery factor of the paper envelope - it also reduces the temptation of the posties (on both sides of the border) from borrowing it for their staff lounges.

I have seen magazines come in grey plastic so they cannot be seen from outside the plastic.

Is the rest of your mail wet or just the magazine?

Funny you should post this, I just got mine soaking wet as well. Whole back page is soaked and about the first 9-10 pages in from that. None of the other mail, just the magazine.

Been with them since day one, I've never had a problem. I also receive other magazines in paper, trouble free. My only hitch has been poor handling my USPS, resulting in wrinkles, tears, etc- Regardless of mailer being plastic or paper. Unless there's been any significant number of damaged or ruined magazines, it will likely remain as is in that envelope.

I would file a complaint with USPS. Get it on record.

When I did "subscribe" it arrived from my favorite etailor in a large box with the rest of my accumulated orders. Yes, that could be a month late but it was nice, dry and wrinkle free. I realize the desire to have it right away.

    Have you contacted the publisher?

I have never had that problem... and I have every issue back to # 1. Either your mailbox leaks or your carriers vehicle does.

At least you got your copy. I didn't receive the last issue and three emails later and no reply I still don't have it. This is after I paid a new two year subscription in advance. The same month, last, I didn't get a Model Railroad News. One email, a quick reply and the issue three days later.

I get Trains, MR, RMC and several other magazines. All are shipped bareass naked. none of them arrive wet or wrinkled, neither does the rest of my mail. Make sure you have a leak free mailbox. Then if it still happens complain to the USPS. There's no excuse for receiving damaged or wet mail.

Mine always comes in a plastic bag. Maybe just the east coast subscribers get plastic because of the greater distance and hence greater exposure.

I subscribe to the Shortline Gazette, have received 2 issues, each in an envelope and haven't had any problems.

FYI- NSR does not ship in plastic. You are thinking of NSM.
