[FONT="]If you live in SF bay area, then there is no room to build the long big bridges module /layout in N scale even though I really want to build one. So I decided Z is the best and most appropriate scale for me, this is my first Z module, it is 4 x 2, feet both sides stick out 2.5 inches and 4 corner cut off 45 degree, it is diamond shaped. Jeff built the entire framework for me and Rob designed the bridge, thank you Jeff and Robert for helping me make this happen. Also, thanks to Loren as well for quickly shipping me all the materials I needed. So this is what I spent the past 3 weeks, I would love to share my work with the group any questions, inputs, and comments are welcome and much appreciated. [/FONT]
Alex, the red can is 'expanding foam' used for insulation and sealing open spaces (commonly in homes). Available at any building supply place. This module looks even better in person ! .
I found this post funny when I read it because the name of the expanding foam in the red and black can is ... "Great Stuff." By the way, great work tin1197.
Yes! It looks like Great Stuff Hien! haha! Your module is coming along real nice! Great Stuff Minimal Expanding Foam is my favorite module terrain glue too. You can use it to glue Extruded Foam to wood or any other material, and easily carve it with a steak knife to the desired shape. Plaster cloth sticks very well to it due to all the micro bubble cavities for the plaster to stick in, or you can paint with latex paint and sprinkle ground cover on it. It's lightweight and easy to rework till you get it just right!
Joes and Alex, I am using can foam to fill the gaps and glue foam. I took a better picture today, all the rocks came from Bragdon's mold. Hien.
Now that is a very nice scene. I like the appearance of rock, ballast and talos. Looking forward to seeing it in person someday.
Thank you guys, not much done this week. I just tested fit, balanced and leveled the brigde, now it is ready to permanently install. weathering, detailing and some mixture of assorted stones/ rocks also added into the river's botttom. I will wet it at the last step. Hien
I am about ready to install the inside bridge and I do not know how far and how much I can make the curve correctly so all the big engine, Challenger and AZL future steam release cross this section without trouble. Any help is appreciated. Hien.
I would recommend making half as much bend as you have now, because the S curve might give uncouplings or clothsline de-railments. I have 11 days off!
Robert is correct. You need a transition (straight piece) between the curves. My Challenger can handle 10" radius but the bigger the radius the better.
