    Final Layout Decisions.

Westfalen... I understand that a final setup arrangement can be very daunting. Here is an Idea. Make some photos with a Front View and a top View of each Module.... Print them on Paper.... Then the night before a show lay it out with the Photos, get a consensus on the final layout arrangement.. Mix it up from show to show.... to keep interest alive. It should quicken the setup time.

    Thanks for your Comments Westfalen

We were thinking of doing just that sometime we have everyone's modules together. We sometimes even move modules around during a show so the layout looks different each day.

That is an excellent idea... this way everyone gets a chance to get their Modules out front for everyone to see. It happens often where some modules are on the inside of a layout and the public doesn't get the opportunity to see those modules easily.

    Thanks Westfalen....

    HI everyone.
My name is Kelley (I am a dude, sorry to dissapoint) and am currently living in Germany. I am sort of, kind of, still involved with the military over here, but live miles away from nearest base.

I model Z, but have been kind of frustrated with it lately (yea that was me ranting a week ago), and so I have decided to perhaps do N on the side.
I find the idea of T-Track and good idea, as Kato track is available here in Europe.

I was on base today and I brought up the idea of T-Track modules to the arts and crafts guys at the Recreation Center. They are always looking for ideas,so they seemed interested. They have a fully operationl woodshop, so it might be even cheaper and faster to get some "kits" made up.
I told them it would be a good project for grownups as well as youth groups and scouts.
I will get the wood cut for a module, along with the hardware locally, and try it out first. If it works out I could continue to sell T-Tracks idea to the Recreation Center and see where it goes.
Now I have an excuse to get me that CB&Q Mike.

Welcome to the T-Trak group Kelley. Yes T-Trak has a lot to offer in a small space using easy to access items. I was amazed at how much detail I could pack into the small module. CB&Q eh? I love the Q, although I model the Q in the later years. I just can't get enough of those GP20s and 30s in Chinese Red!

I honestly wouldn't have guessed anything different, as there are no fewer than two people attached to my local club who are both named Kelly, and I know at least one of them has a wife! Maybe it would have been better to introduce yourself with your middle name if you were at all concerned.

I don't read the Z scale board, but if you were ranting at all about how hard it is to work in a small scale, moving up to N is not really that much of an improvement in that department, although if your hands are used to Z-scale, N may seem much easier to see. However, given the standards of T-Trak, there is really no reason why you not do a T-trak layout in Z-scale as well. Not that I want to drive you away: N scale is after, the Normal Scale, as they say.

Now, for a shameless plug: make sure you all go vote for me in the weekend photo contest poll ;).

If you can get those folks started with T-Trak, that would be great. And it would be good fun to see some photos as they'd make progress.

Very nice work on those modules! How did the show go? How many modelers and modules were there? What kind of reaction did you get from the public? Sorry for so many questions, just curious. Bill, aka billmtx and I are trying to get a loose group of guys to run T-Trak in the Northern NJ area. I have one module built and ready for scenery and two more kits in the closet. Bill is an exceptional modeler. He came to town with his modules and we set them up at a friends home and ran trains. A good time was had by all.

Thank you. The Amtrak passengers waiting for trains and the other people who came to watch the real trains seemed to be very appreciative of our efforts. There were many childern among the viewers and they were just about going nuts. We had two people at setup time of 7:30 am and the show ran until 12:15pm. Three other members showed up later. The effort was between my club and The Albany Area N Trak Club. Amtrak provided Coffee and Danish for all the passengers and visitors. There was 12 feet of straight modules (six feet per side) and and two end corners. There was also a tourist railroad (Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley), reps from operation lifesaver as well as a tourist group there too.
Where are you located in northern NJ. My club, The Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club is in Walden, NY. www.newburghmodelrrclub.org and we may be interested in setting up a layout with another club or group. We have made the four corners and I have an inside corner along with my five feet of modules so we may be able to make an L shaped layout. We are an HO and N club and we also have a modular HO layout that we take to many shows each year. Stephen.

Great Job... I like the idea of using real live backdrops... and using natural outdoor lighting. I will be moving to the Delaware Water Gap area of New Jersey. There are a lot of real nice Railroad backdrops. I may use them for future photos of my Modules. Keep me posted on any events that you may be involved in... I may even join your group at a T-Trak Event.

retsignalmtr, nicely done. I saw your post in the weekend modeling plans thread and thought about going but was unsure of the distance. I'm still trying to get used to the area as I just moved here from East Central Illinois. I'm currently located in Newton NJ, about 45 minutes to an hour roughly from NY state. Bill and I have had some round robin discussion of having a T-Trak club but not like your typical club. We would generally organize by ways of e-mail or forums and meet at train shows. The T-Trak idea is so simple this can be done. Some friends of mine in IL are part of an N-Trak club called Heritage N-Trak. The members are from Chicago all the way down to Decatur so they do not have "meetings". They usually only see each other at shows and exchange plans via internet. This seems to work well for them.

I still need to see what area shows are going on around here, but thanks to Trainboard we can keep each other up to date on potential set up and runs.

Modified in what way? Except for the size, for it is obvious that those modules are larger than T-trak modules.

They are in fact stock standard triple modules (plus standard size end modules).
The modification is that 6 of the modules include a mountain line.

Jim. It took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to get from northern Westchester to Rensselaer. 220 miles round trip. I had to leave home at 5:30 am. I like the idea of an email linked club and have meetings at shows. My club may be at a show in Middletown, NY around the end of July. We may have our T-Trak layout there if there is enough room for it. This show is sponsored by the Ontario and Western (O&W) Historical Society. If you would like to attend I will post the date and time for you. Middletown is not too far from the Jersey line. My club goes to about 6 shows a year and most of them are jammed into a few weeks in late October and into early November.

Definitely some innovations showing. Reminds me of thirty years ago, when NTrak was really taking off and people were getting very creative.
