Hi guys I am trying topost my layout for some critique on this and another forum. With Xtrak you can usually just save the imageas a bitmap or jpg and then import it and post it. However, I have recently switched to MAC and the new shelf layout is on on the MAC version. Whenever I try to export the file or change the file type from xts to something else it does not work. Can anyone give me step by step instructions on how to do this with the MAC version? I really want some input before I start building the layout and find the mistakes the hard way.

    Thanks

I've not used a MAC in years- If nothing else, can you grab a screen shot of it and save as a jpeg?

yeah I am new to the MAC so haven't even figured out how to do that. I will give that a go when I get home from this trip though.

    Thanks

A couple of ways to do this:

    1. XTrkCAD saves bitmap files out in .xpm format. This is a bitmap file used by X-Window applications (UNIX window server/gui). You'll need to convert it. I recommend using Graphic Converter. You can find it here - http://www.lemkesoft.com/public/content/index._cGlkPTg4_.html

Graphic Converter has a demo version that will allow you to convert it from .xpm to .jpg. Be warned, .xpm files are HUGE and you'll need to carefully check the file size (both in kilobytes/megabytes as well as pixel dimensions).

    2. If you'd rather take a screenshot, you can do that. The keyboard shortcut for that is Command-Shift-3 for the whole screen. If you want to either drag-select an area or get just a shot of a certain window, use Command-Shift-4. The default result is a drag-select option; if you hit the spacebar immediately after Command-Shift-4 you'll be able to click in a window to take a screenshot of it.

FYI, the default file format for screenshots in Mac OS X 10.4 and later is .png. You can use the Preview application to convert to .jpg.

Feel free to contact me with any Mac questions you might have. I run a network of 100+ Macs and 6 servers.

Thanks for the info. I actually took a screen shot as another person suggested then put that into iphoto. Then I used photoshop to reduce the file size and save it as a jpeg. Probably the long way around but it worked. Will post the layout in another thread.

    Thanks
