Recently I made a trip to Denver, CO. On my way home I saw (first time ever) a double stack intermodel train headed NB @ Aguilar, CO toward Pueblo, CO on the, to my lnowledge, PRB directional Twin Mtn Sub. Here's my question. Since when or for how long have these double stacked intermodel trains been utilizing this route? What are the originations/destinations?
I worked for BNSF in Denver for several years an I never heard of a double stacker coming in from the south! Very odd indeed. I wish I could help out but I quit a little over a year ago so I'm out of the loop. Sorry!
This was on Aug. 3rd, around 5:00pm that I saw the double stack headed North. There was an empty coalie stopped in a siding and I assume it was stopped to let the double stack go by????
Last week a double stack train came through Palmer Lake going north. The next night there was a pig train going south. Sort of neat since mostly we see coal trains.
I just wish someone here on TB would have the inside info on these intermodal trains, especially the double stacks NB?? They would have to be coming off the Transcon from Amarillo, TX but who knows??????
Hey a thought did just cross my mind....There might be track work on the Brush Sub to the East of Denver that these trains normally traverse. I remember that this happened briefly while I was with BNSF and the detour route was over Palmer down to La Junta then across the old line up to Kansas City and on to Chicago. These trains would most likely be the Z-DenChi and Z-ChiDen with the Piggybacks and a couple of double stacks on the head end. The other one would be the Q-ChiDen with half double stacks and half autoracks usually. The Q-DenChi was a rare train at best with mostly overflow non-priority trailers and/or stacks. This is the best I can do....Sorry
