Anyone seen Jim out there on the highways and byways? Who knows where they've got him running? We will give it a wait and see. You never know where he is going to pop up next.

Like my wife's younger brother. He is supposed to be on a dedicated run, in the southeast. Instead, is running coast to coast and all over the USA. There are times when we hear from him 2-3 days a week, and others when it's 3-4 weeks in between.

I think I would enjoy driving around the country like that except for getting caught in heavy city traffic or Icy roads.

It's a stresser. All the regs and laws now, etc. You won't get rich, either. :(

I have not heard of any units straying from company rails. From the clue, gotta be in their home territory, somewhere. West of the Mississippi? Minneapolis. East side of the River, could be several places, from St. Paul, to ???

Well after trip to Wisconsin back to west side. Here is the western pacific heritage engine that I was lucky enough to Spot. I'm sure it will be easy to find. Good luck.

Hmmm. That's a large bridge. So a large river, such as the Mississippi? From the Burlington? They crossed the Mississippi at Dubuque, Iowa. Am I close?

This scenery can be nearly anywhere from western Nebraska to Utah. Maybe even into CA. What are we supposed to be seeing to give it away? (hmmm.....)

Jim, this is a toughie. Wyoming is so similar from east to west along the UP two-track main. My guess is between Rock River and Rawlins, WY. I chased UP 3985 thru here in 2005 for their trip to Portland. A group of 3 of us went--I drove the first bit, railfanned, and as the steam crew made stops to regrease the bearings, we swapped the wheel so that all 3 of us had a chance to ride. We even had cab rides. I rode from some 40 miles east of Rawlins to the same, where we swapped again. When the steam crew stopped for the night in Rock Springs, WY, we grabbed dinner, turned around and drove home the ~200 miles in the pitch black WY night. Driving at night down the paralleling roads is pitch blackness, then blinding lights as another UP train heads west, followed by pitch black again.... Of course, I was driving (my car), and the two passengers were sawing logs in the back seat. Great chase!

    Here's Creston Jct, WY:

Our ride for part of the triip was office car Idaho, and a couple of the dome cars. Here's our view:

Now that I have somewhat hijacked your thread, Jim, back to your regularly-scheduled programming.... :)
