Reported on loconote, CN is grabbing 27 of the BNSF dash8 40-CWs from the 800 number series will be CN 2135-2161. CN seems to be snapping up everyone's Dash8s.
Yes, but they are being fit with DPU/Locotrol and will be used in DPU service. It sounds like its not so much replacing the older units as it is picking them up cheap before Tier 3 goes into effect. Plus Canada doesn't have any EPA regs, so they can run these without adding the 1033 part at remanufacturing.
If they get the same treatment as the ex-CNW units, They will not fitted for DP service. The only thing CN will do to them is to repaint them, add new seats, a hot plate, a fridge and a microwave oven.
The DPU service part is confirmed in Loconotes. They made a stop on their way east for the upgrade. They were not just painted. In fact, I haven't seen any of them get painted. They're just Warbonnets and Pumpkins with a Canoodle where BNSF/Santa Fe should be.
If they are old Santa Fe units they will need a harris box. The Santa Fe ones were all analog. No computer screens so you had to have that stupid harris box that wont link worth a (fill in appropiate curse words) with one of the integrated ones.It is SUPPOSED to work but dont count on it. Tyler at least CN will be putting new seats in! BNSF just painted the outside, left the mold growing on the cab roof and the oil pooled in the sump! But boy she looks purty.
