Beats me why people keep getting sucked into doing business with the obvious criminals...........??? :tb-confused: I don't deal with anybody who has questionable ads or feedback, no matter how bad I want their toys!!!
That is good to hear. I know that they were not designed for DCC, but can they easily be converted? Gary
So let me be the new comer to N-scale and I bump into this guy on eBay. I see he has a 99.4% rating and I say to myself "I'm good to go!". So how can this be prevented to protect the innocent? Until I read this thread I would not have know who he/she is though as a fairly seasoned N-scaler, the item and price just don't correspond to each other.
If anyone has under a 99.8%, and their ad looks a little fishy, I scrutinize feedback very carefully. If I come up with "slow shipper, bad attitude, iffy product, etc., I walk away. Don't need the aggravation...........one thing I've learned after a long time on "Evil-bay", the stuff always comes back around. In fact, i make it a habit not to deal with anyone under 99.8% feedback, unless there are extenuating circumstances. Just my 2 pennies.........
Yup, I tried to deal with him too. His listing quoted a price for shipping and then he tried to double it. I refused and he posted on eBay that I was an idiot and a lot of other less than pleasant words and gave me a negative report. Up 'till the I was 100% positive. I contacted eBay and they said they had no control over that stuff. So I canceled my eBay account after 6 years.
That's too bad. eBay has always come through for me when I've had problems with a seller. I refuse to leave feedback for a seller until they leave feedback for me.
Here is the latest, item number 320586932526. It is an Athearn Rio Grande 2-8-0 in the 'Bumblebee' scheme and a set of four thirty four foot passenger cars. He wants one thousand, that is correct, one thousand United States of America Dollars as a 'buy it now' price. If you are willing to take your chances at auction, you may start your bidding at eight hundred bananas. I am so sorry to learn that the seller has fallen and bumped his head.
Maybe luck favors the bold. As always, caveat emptor applies. I would get $16.00 in eBay bucks so if I got it for $800, it would would be a net of $784. (Please, watch out for the pool of dripping scarcasm under that last comment.) I can't wait to see how this one comes out. I do a little research online. When I first saw the Kato "Pocket Line" sents, I googled the Kato part number and found that a certain retailer in the NYC area had been selling them for $40.00. I was able to corroborate that general price point with the pricing from Japanese retailers. Other things I do is check to see if there are others of the same item currently listed or check the recently completed auctions. For MT cars, I check their database as to release date and original MSRP. It takes time to learn the market for some of these things, too. I overpaid by a few bucks when I started but I learned from those experiences.
After a few email exchanges, I got the guy with the D&RGW set to drop his price from insanity to a $250 starting bid and a buy it now of $300. It's still a bit much, but not as completely insane as it was before.
It's now at $200.00 with a Buy It Now of $250.00. No photo. $10.00 for 1st Class Mail. Rip. Amature. If you look at what he/she has been selling, it's women's underwear. No trains. Maybe you could get him/her to throw in a few pair.
For the crazy person with the DRG&W set....... http://www.athearn.com/newsletter/072010/15_N_2-6-0_072010.pdf http://www.athearn.com/newsletter/072010/16_N_50_overland_072010.pdf The 2-6-0 and 50' Overland cars are due before Christmas. Full retail is $129 on the loco and $69 on the 4 car set. The 2-8-0 and 30' Overton cars were priced the same last go around and I expect them to be re-released shortly. They don't even have a hint of a collectable value with new product on the horizon.
