Besides here at the trainboard, what alternatives do we have about whats new in the world of nscale, particularly product information?
There are other forums around but usually when something is announced it makes all the forums pretty quickly, depending on the item that is usually in hours or days. Atlas uses its own forum to announce its products and other manufacturers can and do use it as well.
Model Railroad News covers pretty much everything new. Someone was handing out copies at the Z Scale Convention, and it covered all new stuff in all scales. Walthers Flyers are also full of what's new in all scales. BLW always have an up to date What's New section too.
Most of the manufacturers have an "upcoming releases" portion to their website like this: http://www.imrcmodels.com/currentflyers.html Some of the online stores tap into those and have "pre-order" areas on their sites where you can see what's coming in the future: http://www.blwnscale.com/update log3.htm A few manufacturers (like Atlas) allow you to subscribe to an e-mail notification/newsleter for new releases.
I get email notifications from: Atlas Athearn Intermountain Bachmann Exactrail Walthers Rapido Trains ConCor Just go to their websites and register.
I have occasionally bought N Scale magazine for its coverage of new and expected products especially the oddball, small-manufacturer items that don't buy a bunch of space in the big magazines.
The above mentioned are great sources Joe. Also try some train store.com we gotta get together soon Joe. Tom
Newsletters are the best way. Atlas announces new products in its newsletter and mentions the arrival of those products. Athearn tells me about their plans, and one of them is a caboose in Rock Island blue.:tb-biggrin: Thanks to their newsletter, I know that the caboose will be produced. And I will buy it! The best newsletter is the one from Rapido. Very informative, with a lot of humor, and interesting background information.
Aren't summers the slow period for model railroading, and the rumors and announcements start sometime in the fall, and are basic realities by Christmas????? At least down here in SoFla, the remaining hobby shops have full shelves of trains, cars, accessories and structures thanks to dirty old Mr Economy. Ken "FloridaBoy" Willaman
