Hey - thanks fro your tinkering time gats! So the solution appears to be sliding the Atlas gear inward on the atlas Axle?
No problems, Pete, I was getting too intrigued to not tinker for the 10 minutes it took. The image below should explain what I did and how it looks.

If you really want to go Frankenstein, a Kato motor will fit right in the gP20 frame, you just have to re-use the Life Like flywheels. I did this on a pair, and had the smoothest-running GP20's you ever saw.
