I want to put together a city scene on a layout designed for kids to use. I'd like to find a source of photos to print out & make a bunch of cardstock "city" stuctures- any ideas on a source? Ideally they would be free, I hate to pay when I could (if I dind't work 2 jobs) just go photograph something myself..... but I can understand if that's asking too much. :tb-tongue:
This site is not free http://www.kingmill.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=170 May give you some ideas. Here is a free site http://www.ss42.com/pt-buildings.html
Wow ! Gary G&G hit a real good one. Lots of downloads, but I think Max Airedale takes the prize. An Illinois state site, with pdf's of the structures including instructions and even fold down tabs. EMD F7A- Don't get very, very heavy stock. It will be much harder to make crisp seams. BTW- What I really like about Trainboard is that you can ask a question and less than an hour afterwards, you will get pointed in two right directions.
Agreed on the "WOW!" part! I'm going to Michaels tonight to get some stock. I thing an elevated urban scene sounds like fun! You guys are the best. Keep 'em coming if you got 'em, I know other people here would love to have some of these too!
I think I'll use a matte photo paper, and glue it (glue stick) to the thin cardboard... help support it in case little hands wander. I am also going to take some photos of some local San Francisco landmark buildings and try and recreate some cool spots. This could end up being a really fun project!
watch the scale Last time I printed from the Illinois site it came out HO scale. Try it with paper first. Regards Roger.
Most of the Illinois History Mainstreet 'kits' are in HO scale, but you can reduce them down for N scale. I've build the depot building (somewhat modified) and it come out ok. Cheers, Kev
I've beeN building card models for N since I got back iN to N. I subscribe to a site that deals with large scale traiNs aNd Christmas layouts. They publish a series called "Tribute to tiNplate". The publish the graphics in G, O and S. I priNt the S and reduce them to 30% on the priNter. This comes out pretty close to N size. Re the card backiNg, I use cigarette tube boxes. This is a very thiN but very sturdy card stock that folds crisply. The address for the site is as follows: http://www.bigindoortrains.com/trains_n_towns_signup.htm This is the sigN up page for the Newsletter. EveN if its for larger scales, it is still a great site.
