    Hi all,

As you can see I've just joined the forum, so sorry if this is a bit of a heavy first post [IMG]

I was recently in Tokyo and purchased my fist train set in years. I went for TOMIX and the following rail sets (along with a JR500 3 part set - more to come me thinks):

My Plan NR (F) which contains fine track pattern A+B – part number 90942
Rail Set Bridge Approach Set (Pattern C) – 91063
Rail Set Double Tracking Set (Pattern D) – 91064

On the back of the TOMIX boxes there are some suggested layouts, I used the sets to build the 3rd design under step 4 using sets A+B+C+D (as shown on the back of the boxes – and also shown on page 30 of the TOMIX Basic Manual) – this works well. Before I make this layout final I decided that I would prefer to make the layout shown under Step 5 that uses kits A+B+B+C+D and this is where I need your help/advice.

I know that I need to purchase another Pattern B (91062 – I think, as it looks like I need switches for the points that are not included in 91061)

I would really appreciate it if anyone could provide me with list of the additional items that I need to purchase. I’m not sure if I also need another power unit as the diagrams show two being required for this layout (although they also show two being needed for layout A+B+C+D which works fine with the single supply that came with 90942).

I did a quick search of the forum and found Rainbow Ten Models who I have just email the same question to, I'm not sure how good their English is, so sorry if this is conceived as a double post of sorts [IMG]

Thanks in advance and with kindest regards

    Davie

    edit
I just got an update from Rainbow Ten (they're very good aren't they?) stating I need another B set (as I thought) and a universal box (5533) - only problem is they're sold out (they also tell me that tomix is also 'sold out', but I think that's a language thing, they probably mean their distributer).

So, do you know anywhere I can purchase Tomix online?

(I sent Rainbow Ten an order fo $600 worth of trains and scenery)

    Cheers

    Davie

    Davie,
I don't know much about Tomix myself but have you tried contacting the owner of this site? http://japanese-model-supplies.com/ .......He specialises in Japanese N-Gauge.
    Good luck,
    John.

    Thanks John,

I'll give it a go - i did try the site earlier, only problem is they seem to be on a shopping trip to Japan for the last week or so.

I don't know about you, but It seems strange buying something from a 3rd party when (in theory) you should be able to buy direct from a Japanese reseller.

I guess this shows how new I am to all of this

    Cheers

    Davie

You lucky dog! I would like to take a trip to Japan and railfan the Shinkansen system. Did you happen to take any photos of the shinkansen while you were there? If you did I'd really like to see those. Keep us posted on your progress. I just joined the Japan forum...thanks Allan.

    thanks all.

    I'll keep you updated.

re:photo's - I bought the new Sony DSC-T1 in Toyko after riding the JR500 from Osaka :-(
... and then on my way back to Osaka I was in too much of a panic trying to find the right platform (and stand in my allocated queue) to think of taking any pictures. NEXT TIME!
