Ok I blame several of you TrainBoad.com N scalers for this! I am now hooked! I have managed to purchase enough N scale equipment that I'm ready to begin the planning stage of the Agawam Southern Railway N scale HCD+ layout.

I'm starting the planing stage here with the town of Agawam, Montana which was the end of the Milwukee Road's Northern Montana Line. This town had 2 small grain elevators, a couple houses, and a bar/post office. Just north of town was a "Y".

In the Google map below, you can see what's left of the town, where the tracks used to be, including the Y north of town. This will be built as a module which will connect to the HCD.

    Agawam, Montana Google Map Link

So, I am looking for help finding photos of the grain elevators there in Agawam. It would be great to get photos all the structures too, but the elevators will be a good start.

I have purchased most of the track, Atlas Code 55 will be the standard. Minimal switches will be #7's. I could use some help deciding minimal radius, otherwise I'm going with max possible by default.

The plan is to have a nice blend between operations and scenery.

So, please feel free to give your input, suggestions, or ask questions.

    Thanks!
    -Bob

Enjoy designing and building your N scale HCD layout. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it.

I am doing something similar with my Astoria modules in that I have some old tax lot maps and some information from a book on the SP&S, but a considerable lack of historic photos of the rail facilities. I am therefore making it up as how it could have been.

It took me a minute to see the wye, but I see it now. That ought to be a fun location to model.

Also, I love seeing more Milwaukee Road!

GS! Thanks for the photo links! Those will be very helpful!

Thanks Bob. You are partially to blame for this, my friend. :)

SD, cool! So how far along are you with it? And, do you have a thread your writing as you go to record things? I've found my favorite threads here are TB are the ones like Bob's JJJJ&E and similar. I'm sure many of us would love to see your work!

I haven't started a thread, but I probably should. Before, my hesitation was that I didn't have much information, but now I have something to share.

I know you'll have a good time with N scale. You'll just have less to weather when it comes time to weather the rolling stock.

You'll be able to weather twice as many in half the time. All kidding aside, you're going to have a ball with N scale. Think about the longer trains you could run on your layout and all the scenery you can have fun with.

If you're going with a hollow-core door, may I humbly recommend a look at this site for some ideas.

No problem- hopefully there will be some things in there that you can incorporate into your HCD layout.

Speaking of which, feel free to check out this Trainboard Group, which is dedicated to HCD layouts.

Just joined! I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to start on this, but I'm very excited to do so! 8 week old Abby is a bit demanding of my time of late. :)

If a hollow core door won't work, perhaps T-Trak modules. Which is the direction I have chosen for now. :tb-biggrin:

Thanks Ken. I'll look up T-Track & see if they would work better.

I've seen some pretty good T-Trak modules at train shows, and I agree this is also a good option.

From looking things over, I will most likely end up combining both into the design.
