Shifting prototype, but same scale

Since I found out about Train and Troopers ET&WNC ten wheelers right after purchasing all my C&S stuff, the desire to switch roads has stalked me like a wolf stalks its prey. I worked out a trade deal with Keith Wiseman along with some cash for a ET&WNC #12 in the late Hobbs paint scheme. I kept two old Kemtron reefers, all the rest is headed to Keith's shop as it was all western road stuff. The switch in prototype fits the operation at the local club better and my modeling interests. Now back to laying track on my layout, need to get started on the upper level and the grades to and from it. New pics later this week I hope. My other hobby of antique Cub Cadet garden tractors has kept me busy in the garage restoring my model 125 garden tractor. Happy Easter. Mike and Michele T

What scale are you. If you are Hon3 I might be willing to purchase some C&S stuff from you if its not to late.

HOn3 scale. All the C&S stuff is going to Keith Wiseman unless you want enough to make it worth while. Keith gave me $250 for all my C&S stuff. Mike

Btw, do you have the Tweetsie plans that have been published? Jim Kelly did several articles and plans for a complete freight train in the July 1981 MR. Back around 2001, NG&SLG published a series of plans by E.M. Cass. Finally, there are the plans in Ferrell's Tweetsie Country. I haven't yet had the pleasure of acquiring any of Johnny Graybeal's books (I really want the passenger car book...I'll buy it when I get a chance)...so I don't know if they have plans (they are rumored to have them).

I just got the Tweetsie Country book in the mail today, havent had the chance to sit down and thumb thru it yet. I also have Harry Brunk's book "Up Clear Creek on the Narrow Gauge" that needs a new home if anybody would like to purchase it. $40 shipped to your door. I should have my #12 from Keith shortly. This book is great. I own it too. There I found the idea for my bridge over Silver Creek.

I'd be interested in the book. While I am located in Australia I'd get it sent to my Aunt in California to make it easier. I'd have to pay you via something like Paypal though - I don't have an easy way of transferring money to a US bank account. Let me know if thats doable.

I thought you had a couple of brass HOn3 engines? I would have thought you could have gotten more than $250 for them. How much HOn3 equipment did/do you have?

I can send it to her in cali, no prob, paypal is also fine. shoot me a pvt message and I will send you my paypal id. I had a couple other HOn3 engines but I sold them at the last show. That was the only down side to changing to ET&WNC, the high cost of the locomotive. Hopefully I can pick up a second one next year, although I know it will be much harder to locate one. My previous HOn3 engines were in the under $300 price range, the new ten wheeler was just over $800. I would go up to On30 to lower the cost, but I lack the space to model the way I want in that scale, and I cant run On30 on the narrow gauge portion of the club layout here in town. Cheers Mike

A friend of mine has a number of T&T's Sn2 locomotives...their stuff is nice.

I'm looking forward to when the market price on the On30 engines drops to around $100...by then I'll be able to afford to add #11. Probably won't be as easier of a conversion as the 2-8-0, but not really difficult.

You can get the On30 4-6-0 on ebay for just over $100 if you're lucky. I just got one for around that on the weekend. Its unlettered, and DCC (but no sound). I think that the low street price of the Bachmann On30 locos is a big part of the appeal of that scale for people.

It is, but I am glued to HOn3 so I spent the big $$ and got a brass one. I am just doing a small layout in narrow gauge as a diversion till I can start construction of an around the room layout modeling the shortline here in Kokomo, Indiana around 1989. On30 is beautifull, I had some at one time, but I find it slightly fragile and Bachmann has had issues with gears splitting in the past on the shay and climax locomotives. I should have my new ET&WNC #12 tomorrow via the mail man. Cheers Mike

That is the appeal to me! It is cheaper to use their On30 2-6-0 mechanism, once I've regauged it, than any other source to build the South Park's 2-6-0s (or the C&S moguls from 1902-1917). The OF 2-8-0 is also a heck of a lot cheaper than the brass D&RGW OF 2-8-0s...and diecast & plastic are easier to bash than brass...so I can add SN #34 and various Oahu Railway locomotives. My 2-8-0 was $70...my most recent 2-6-0 was $50.

I hope you'll treat us to a photo of your T&T 4-6-0 once it arrives! I also hope you'll consider adding a Toledo, Cincinnati, & St. Louis car to your roster...it was one of the largest and most historically significant of all narrow gauge roads...and it ran through Kokomo. The best source of info on it is Rehor's The Nickel Plate Story.

I have several cars for the older lines that ran thru Kokomo that are in interchange on others layouts. The local hobby shop specializes in custom runs of odd shortline cars of days gone by. I will work on getting a pic of the ET&WNC #12 tomorrow, the top of the layout is a mess, as is the train room! Need to do some house keeping, then get started on my low nose GP7 project. Supposed to be chilly and rainy all next week, so I will get some indoor hobby time. Spent this evening working on my antique Cub Cadet model 125 garden tractor. The tractors get more attention during the warm weather unless its raining or chilly out. Cheers Mike

Hey mate, did you get my private message? Still interested in selling the book?

Looking forward to seeing a picture of that HOn3 4-6-0 myself... ;-)
