Some of the ZoCal group (Lindley and Lajos to be exact) have the same situation as I do on our modules. We have track that either is a dead end stub (if connected to any other module) or with a piece of sectional track, continues on into the next module which has a matching track section. Most of the time this is not a problem as the modules are almost always connected together. But I wanted the option to just end the track on my end/yard module. I had cut off an inch long piece of sectional track that was just too long (it was running into a future road). So I took that piece and put the gray piece back in the bottom and the joiner back on. Glued a stack of ties on the end and got this: If I can't for some reason connect to the next module, I can just connect it up: Put a stock car there and instant stub:
Just goes to show you that there is some pretty creative gray matter down there in California. Nice job.
Okay, The end module. Jeff Merril has the same basic end, 6' x 3'. We each have one mainline, but I have two sidings per main and Jeff has one siding. Jeff has some nice long spurs though. I put some industrial spurs in with some nice switching. I have a way to go on finishing this module, but I'm trying: Here you see a broader view of that sectional track (industrial area). The yellow building is the Wick's lumber building. It just won't be called that: Another view (SD40-2 in foreground): http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4007/4498856178_6b42cff252.jpg Another spur with another freighthouse 9sorry about the blur):
The future intermodal yard: A future gate. The intermodal yard will be surrounded by barbed wire fence. You did know there is z scale barbed wire fence, right?: A close up of the UP SD40-2:
No, I wasn't aware and would be very interrested of having a reference / website for ordering this stuff....:tb-wink: (And congratulations for your work!:thumbs_up Dom
Nice module David! Modules like that are perfect for lunchtime at the show... giving you a place to part while you go grab a bite to eat. Every club should have one or two end modules like that!

Thanks Robert. I know everyone running trains when we do a show likes the sidings. We can sometimes park three trains on one spur and rotate through them. Also gives you a place to "build" a train and the main stays open. I purposely made 2" centers on the curved sections and 1" on the straights. The larger gaps was to allow for the longer cars/engines not to hit the adjoining track - and some finger room. Friday and Saturday night of a show, we try to park all the trains in the yard and we cover them up with one of those large yellow/orange sheets of plastic that the GTE show used to hand out.
I like the MicronArt versions for the varied gates: http://www.micronart.com/91405.html But it is brass so you need to paint and weater it. The Miller Engineering stuff is Stainless Steel. Just needs DullCote and weathering. .
Excellent! Thanks for the input Dave! I agree that Zscalemonster is a gold mine... Dom Mmhh... I didn't check Micronart's neither. Nice stuff as well! Now I'm aware that we have choice...:tb-cool: Dom
