Does anyone have any current updates on the availability of the Atlas Code 55 flex track? The last thing I read was from Feb 2010 where Atlas (Cody Grivno) said that new stock should be shipping in March. Yesterday, my LHS said it was still backordered.

I am about to be starting an extension to my layout and will be needing more flex.

I didn’t know there was a shortage. How much are you trying to buy and have you looked around?
I know I just saw some somewhere. I’ll have to back track where I just made purchases to remember where I saw them, but I know its still availble..

Wow, I just looked around and there is none. This sounds mighty suspicious. Could this be a plot to raise prices?

Yeah, every LHS in my area is out. And my normal interner retailers are out. I bought some Micro Engineering earlier in the month. Kind of funny, because when I first started modelling N-Scale a couple of years ago, nobody had ME flex track.

It isn't a plot. It was an accident. The mold(s) were damaged and had to be replaced.

:tb-rolleyes: Sounds like one of the 3 great lies of all time:

    (1) "The checks in the mail."

    (2) "The trucks on the way."
    (3) "The molds where broken." (to paraphrase) :tb-wink:

    when did all this happen?

Boy I don’t know how I missed this. I’m glad that I bought when I did. I have 100 pieces setting on a shelf and I believe it was Friday when they fell off the shelf and hit me in the head. That’s really weird.

So when did all this happen?

I had no idea that there was so much C55 being used. I’m curious now as to just how many have Code 55 layouts.

It is not just in n scale, i heard from a local hobby shop that he can not order Atlas Ho rail jointers. Every one is out and there is not date for more.

    Product
    Announced
    Orders Due
    Estimated Ship Date
    Container Shipping Date
    Atlas Shipping Date
    At Dealer
    Atlas HO & N Track & Accessories N Code 55 Track November 2008 November 30, 2008 February 2010 ---
this was on atlas web site. it says that it was shiped from china or where ever in febuary but no date of a shipping date from atlas after they recieve the track. This means that they have not recieved it or they have not shiped it from atlas to it dealers.

The folks at Atlas are in the middle of a major mess-up, and they know it.

The N Scale Yahoo list reports Atlas people are in China at present attempting to straighten out the issues, and they will let us know when they get back.

The whole Chinese thing has backfired on a lot of companies - Sanda Kan's financial problems forced a takeover by Kader (who owns Bachmann) and Sanda Kan did manufacturing for a LOT of MRR companies.

Atlas WILL get their problems straightened out, and they have been candid on their Forum. That's where confirmation of the broken mold was made in response to a user question.

In the meantime, there is indeed ME. It's better track IMO, and not as hard to work with as has been reported. Far as I'm concerned, it actually looks better and is available in both wood and concrete tie variations. And it's made in Missouri. And it doesn't cause problems with deep flanges. And perhaps most importantly, it is available.

Oh man, this sounds serious. I just ordered two bundles of C80 a couple of weeks ago and have not received it yet, I hope it’s not spreading to other Atlas products. :pbaffled:

It has already. I know some of their n scale engines are already backed up. I just got a bc hydro mp15 dc from my local hobby shop, the original date was sept 09. My GP40's that was supose to come in january now says shipping container date April 2010, that means late april or may if they do not push it back more.

In the Ho relm i know that no one can order atlas jointers. The local hobby shop said that walthers, ext... are all out and there is no date when more are comming from atlas.

Wouldn't several other manufacturers make HO joiners which will work with Atlas HO track?

ME is a great alternative to Atlas C55 currently until it again becomes unavailable. Swings and roundabouts. :D
Oh, yeah, if ME C55 joiners become unavailable use Peco Z joiners with the bonus they're smaller.

But my question - where's the Atlas curved turnouts?

Is this a shortage of flex track only or are the turnouts affected also? Thanks.

It's a pity someone had to ask a question first, I've said before it's common courtesy to keep your customers informed. If only they had said this it would have saved many negative threads on forums. It does lead to another question though, with a basic, staple, should always be available item like track, why was there not a backup mold to keep production going?
The best looking track in the world is no good if you can't buy it when you need it.:tb-wink:

They'll get it out there. Most of it got bought up by men in black. But they are moving onto scenery now so you better watch out, Woodland scenics will be going out of stock too.
