The motor in my Kato GP50 gave up the ghost. Does anyone know if any Atlas motor will be an easy fit? They would be the easiest to obtain, I suspect. Any advice on getting it back on the road would be appreciated.
If it is the brushes Kato should have some spares. I know almost all of their motors use the same brush set.
One place you may want to keep an eye on is Ebay, as recently I saw a GP50 mechanism for sale. You may also find one you could buy and canabalize for parts, or you may even find the actual motor. It is possible to find some good deals there, I just don't know how pricey the shipping to GB would be.
Alan Kato sells a separate motor for N scale repowering projects. It is a double shaft DC motor without the flywheels GM5. retails for $13.95 usd. Kestutis Sonta mailto:sonta@home.com
Alan, Have you tried MG Sharp in Sheffield. They are Kato main importers and I have seen Kato motors in the shop but not sure which locos they fit. Best wishes, John.
Thanks for all the help guys. John, I will give Ken a call after the holidays. If I can get one in the UK, it will save excessive postage costs and customs charges if bought in the US.
Thanks to a friendly trucker in the north west USA, I now have a replacement chassis for my GP50! It is now back on the rails Thanks Vince
