I had a set of Rivarossi passenger cars i had never ran and decided to get them in service. As soon as they started to move there was an annoying squeek. I thought it was the ends of the axles but upon further inspection it was the bolster screw rubbing on the center of the axle. Has anyone else experianced this and what did you do? :tb-wacky:
I swapped the trucks for Micro-trains ones. They roll much better. As a temporary measure you could (as I did) just remove the middle wheelset. You hardly notice the wheels missing.
The probelm is the axle length on the stock wheel sets is too short. I have quite a few that the wheels fall out when you pick the car up. This allows the axle to set up too far in the pocket when the weight of the car is on it. Play around with some other wheel sets, I can't remember what I ended up with to fix the problem. You can also replace the screw with a flat head (counter sunk) screw, that may help.
I agree with Bobo then. I run some with only 1 set of MTL's & run the rapidos thru the train & put a MTL on the rear. Unless I run into something like your problem. Then that car will get full MTL treatment.:tb-biggrin:
The MT trucks are a last resort for me. The cars couple pretty darn close with the stock trucks with rapido couplers and seem to be more reliable than the MT trucks. I get more unintended uncouplings with the MT trucks than any other.
One of the reasons I dont really want to use the MT trucks is because the trucks came stock with Knuckle couplers. Some sort of dummy type coupler but they look good and stat together well. I will try a different wheelset and see what happens. Stay tuned.....
