The CSX Blue Ridge Subdivision in N scale is a small layout based off of CSX operations in the Appalachia regions of North Carolina. The real CSX Blue Ridge Subdivision goes from Erwin, TN to Spartanburg, SC. CSX loaded coal to Charlotte, NC leaves the Subdivision at Bostic, NC while the empties join the Blue Ridge Subdivision there. The layout will mostly feature CSX coal traffic around the Spruce Pine region of the Blue Ridge Subdivision. I do have a Norfolk Southern Interchange though no like the one in Marion, NC where the NS S line passes over the Blue Ridge Subdivision with a small connection track to the north east. I will hope to do an update once a week on trainboard and the blog.
Looks good! I have been following your progrees on your blog; looking forward to discussing the layout on here as well. Jamie
Excellent! Good start on a beautiful Blue Ridge Subdivision layout. You could not have picked a better locale for eastern coal operations. Do not forget coal traffic to the southeast via Spartanburg, SC (my hometown). Do you have a copy of "The CSX Clinchfield Route in the 21st Century" by Jerry Taylor and Ray Poteat? That is an excellent, all color, hard back book full of modeling ideas.
Nice looking scene in that picture. the tress and ballast work look great to me. That CSX looks great. How about more photos of your layout or did I miss them some place else?
Great looking layout. I have video taped this area extensively. I 2nd CRR Fans comment about the book. My absolute favorite book. Do you need any CSX coal cars? I have several extra. Jeff
Thanks for all the great comments, "Excellent! Good start on a beautiful Blue Ridge Subdivision layout. You could not have picked a better locale for eastern coal operations. Overveiw: The things I worked on the layout over this week. First I ballasted and added the platform to the engine house in the yard. I also started work on a hill looking over Toe River Siding. Photos: I worked on the platform for My small Engine House in the make believe Yard in Marion, NC. It took maybe 1/2 a day to come with a way for a platform. I used standard N scale road bed a brush and some wood glue to come up with an old concrete look. I also put in a hill over looking Toe River Siding. Here a Rerouted NS 222 going as CSX Z422 pulls past CSX F751. Comments, Questions? Thanks!
Yes it's on my blog. Some of the locations are not correct, http://csxblueridgesub.blogspot.com/2010/01/about-csx-blue-ridge-subdivision-in-n.html
Well I wasn't really liking my layout, I felt that I didn't have the space to model the Blue Ridge subdivision. So I relocated and switched railroads to Norfolk Southern's Christianburg District's West End. http://nschristianburgdistrictnscale.blogspot.com/
You picked another good area. I checked out that area while coming back from a business trip and actually caught a coal train on video about 20 miles east of Bluefield. It is at the tail end of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0g1fjfsVNxs Jamie
Ah, good choice, the Christianburg district a great route. It's my favorite NS line after the Shenandoah Valley line.
